Mesmerizing procession

Dressed in traditional attire, thousands of people in Guwahati took a huge cultural procession in the city on the last day of the Asom Sahitya Sabha’s special session on Monday.

Led by Sabha president Imran Shah, the 7km long colourful procession took off from the Rudra Singha Sports Complex and covered the entire city mesmerizing the Guwahatians in the morning.

Students from the various schools and colleges were also seen participating in the procession much to the delight of the Sahitya Sabha officials. The session is set to end on Monday after the cultural function in the evening.

High drama in Akhil arrest

A high drama took place when police and para military forces arrested Akhil Gogoi from his own residence on Thursday wee hours.

As a police team led by magistrate Chinmoy Sarma reached Gogoi’s rented house in Nazarapar in Chandmari, KMSS supporters in large number thronged Chandmari and tried to prevent the arrest.

Police resorted to blankfiring to disperse the KMSS supporters. Gogoi who is being kept in Panbazar police station has been arrested in two non bailable cases. He is expected to be produced before the court towards the evening.        

Nagaland CM unveils new scheme

Nagaland Chief Minister T.R Zeliang officially launched Beti Bachao Beti Padhao(BBBP) at his residential office in Kohima on Tuesday. In his address he said,”

with the world moving towards a more equitable and inclusive society, Nagaland cannot afford to be left behind. The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is a significant step towards reinforcing sense of responsibility towards girls by seeking to address gender imbalance, discrimination against the girl child.”

He said this program encourage birth of girl and tackle low Child Sex Ratio(CSR) adding that Nagaland especially among the Nagas, there is no practice of deliberate medical intervention to prevent the birth of a girl child. He asked the health department to immediately carry out an independent survey of their own and find out if there is any mistake in the census report.


Bajali girl steals the march

A local girl from Bajali in Barpeta district fetches no less pride for Assam when she proficiency medal in Physics from Kanpur IIT.

She is none other than Barnali Das,  a resident of Sariha Chakla at Patacharkuchi who grabbed general proficiency medal & proficiency medal in the 2 year Master of Science examination of Physics.
She received the medal at the recent convocation ceremony after she obtained 10 CPI and SPI in each semester out of 10. The daughter of Munindra Das a professor of Mathematics  and Siran Kalita Das, a science teacher of Patacharkuchi Girls High School, Barnali got 4th position in HSLC and the 5th position in HS science stream. She secured the best graduate award in Physics under Delhi University in 2014. Now she is planning to carry out her research work at the National Centre for Radio Astrophysics from Pune.
Various local organisations and individuals congratulated for her outstanding performance.
