Actor joins TMC

Noted film actor Biju Phukan joined Trinamool Congress in presence of Mamata Banerjee at a function in Guwahati on Wednesday.

Phukan, who once contested the assembly polls from AGP told the TMC boss that he was prepared to fight the polls.

People thronged in thousands at the sarusajai Stadium to attend the TMC rally where Mamata Banerjee drew appreciation.

Ms. Banerjee clarified, while addressing a party rally in Guwahati, that Trinamool Congress was a part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government when it was headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee but her party would not support any party that incites communal violence and hatred on the basis of religion, caste, creed or community.

Forest guards have killed three dreaded poachers at an encounter in Kaziranga on Wednesday after the national park lost four rhinos during the last 13 days.The encounter took place at Burhapahar range of the world heritage site in the wee hours. Kaziranga authorities told Assam Times that the gun battle erupted in the wee hours when the forest guards spotted the armed poachers inside the park.Forest guards have further recovered arms from the encounter site. Notably, poachers have killed four one horn animals just within a short spell of time.

Hundreds of people hit the streets in Kaziranga in protest against the unabeted rhino poaching in the national park. The protesters further snubbed the government for failing to stop the rampant poaching of the one horn animals in the state.AASU adviser Dr Samujja Bhattacharya who joined the protest demanded army deployment to stop poaching in the world heritage site.
