Anti-Tribal Bills: JAC

With the Manipur Government’s persistent refusal to acknowledge the tribal rights and privileges as enshrined in the Constitution of India, and the Central Government continuing to turn a blind eye to the plight of the tribal people, the Tribal Consultation Meeting convened by the Joint Action Committee against Anti-Tribal Bills (JAC) at Synod Hall, IB Road, Lamka, Churachandpur district, Manipur on 14th January, 2016 resolved that all tribal people of Manipur should abstain from the Indian Republic Day celebrations on 26th January, 2016 as a demonstration of our resentment towards the Manipur Government’s continued injustice towards the tribal people of Manipur and the Central Government remaining a mere spectator while the tribal people are being denied their Constitutional rights for decades now.


It is the collective belief of the august gathering of the Tribal Consultation Meeting attended by tribal people belonging to various communities from across Manipur that abstaining from the Indian Republic Day celebrations on 26th January, 2016 in all tribal territories of Manipur is the only option available to voice our sentiments against the continued anti-tribal and discriminatory policies of the Manipur Government. As also resolved in the said meeting, tribals belonging to various communities in Manipur are humbly requested to light candles at their respective homes on the night of 26th January, 2016 between 6 PM to 7 PM as a show of our respect for the supreme sacrifices made by our nine Tribal Martyrs, to express our solidarity and collective grief towards the Government’s continued indifference to the issues faced by the tribals of Manipur, and our continued collective commitment towards fighting for the tribal cause.

Contraband items worth Rs 12 crore seized

IMPHAL, Mar 14 : In one of the biggest recoveries of contraband items in recent times, troops of 12 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector Assam Rifles apprehended a drug peddler with brown sugar and WY tablets worth approximately Rs 11.96 crore near Tengnoupal on March 13. Acting on specific input, a TATA Sumo Grande(Regd No TR01 U 0250) was stopped at MVCP Tengnoupal at about 1800 hours yesterday and on through checking of the vehicle, 138 packets of brown sugar weighing 1.865 kg and 450 packets containing 90,000 WY tablets were found very well concealed inside the vehicle, as per a release from PRO of IGAR (S) on Wednesday. New migratory birds sighted at Loktak Lake

IMPHAL, Jan 20 (NENA): A few new species of migratory birds were found flocking at Loktak Lake during this year’s bird count, but the exact number of birds is yet to be known officially as of now. All old vehicles to be converted to electric vehicles by 2020

All old petrol and diesel vehicles in the country are set to convert to all-electric vehicles by installing kits by 2020. This was informed to the media by senior scientist Robindro Lairenlakpam from the Indian Institute of Petroleum Council of Scientific and Industrial Research at the Press Club here on Tuesday. He said the plan would be completed by 2020 during which 60-70 lakh old vehicles are to be converted to electric-vehicles. Robindro also informed that this plan is being taken up under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.  The Centre has already declared that India will sell only electric vehicles by 2030.

Drugs seized in Manipur

 Drugs worth Rs 3 crore were intercepted here on Saturday by police and arrested a man in connection with the incident. Police said 72,000 pieces of WY tablets and 286 gm of heroin were uncovered from a sand-loaded mini truck around noon. They identified the drug peddler as Nongmaithem Ranjit, 56, son of Dolanjao of Nambol Heikrujam Nongmaithem Leikai within Bishnupur district. The drug haul could have fetched more than Rs 3 crore if it had been allowed to hit the streets. Steps to check border influx

In a move to fend off illegal immigration to Manipur, special police teams have been deployed in border areas of the state, in the wake of publication of National Register of Citizens (NRC) draft in Assam. One killed, three hurt in hit-and-run accident

IMPHAL, Jan 3 (NENA): One cyclist was mowed down and three others were injured in a hit-and-run car accident last night, hitting one person after another in Imphal East’s Hatta and NRL pump at Khurai.   The deceased identified as Thangjam Paka, 56, resident of Khurai Thangjam Leikai, died near Khurai NRL pump after the Santro car hit and dragged him along the road about 100 ft. Prior to the fatal incident, the same car hit a pedestrian in front of Hatta Public Hospital and another person who was driving Honda Activa scooter and pedestrian who were injured. Militants involved in driver kidnapping held

Imphal, Dec 30 (NENA): Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested three militants of the United Naga People Council/Ching Tam Liberation Army (UNPC/CTLA) who were involved in the recent kidnapping of a truck driver who was later released.
