Don Bosco University set up in Guwahati

State got its first private university as Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday formally inaugurating the State's first private university, the Don Bosco University, at a function held at the Don Bosco School auditorium.Noted educationist Prof K Sudha Rao, former VC of Karnataka State Open University delivering the key note address, said that the nation building process will gather speed if the younger population of the country, more than any other age group, is properly trained and groomed. Rao while lauding the initiative of opening a private university said that it was a sign of prosperity for the coming years to the North East States and Assam in particular. Speaking on the occasion, Chancellor designate Father Joe Almeida described the moment as historical and asserted that the new university was conceptualized to respond to the growing needs of the region, afflicted by myriad problems. He said that unemployment was a major problem in the region and the university will address the problem. He also assured that the university will strive to create new generation of leaders with a vision and commitment towards society.

The university, which already has an engineering college under it, would be using the infrastructure already available with the Don Bosco Society at Azara, Kharghuli and Maligaon, while additional facilities will be built up at the permanent campus at Tepesia. I am delighted to know about the inaugration of the Don Bosco University, the second catholic university in the Country. I hope that this university will in time to come cater to the students at the national level by offering its courses through the Distance Education Medium which will be highly beneficial to the students who wish to persue higher education which is out of the reach of many under preveliged students. Don Bosco institutions have been noted worldwide for their high academic standards.

I am so much impressed with the establishment of the Don Bosco University, the first ever private university in the state (Assam). In facts the academic standards of the state would be enhanced evermore with the spirit of competitve mindedness between the state own and the private,s technical university. I hope this would bring about a positive change towards development of the region. After all, I convey my thanks to the Catholic Church for bringing the dreams of the young generations come true.
