Guwahati: A police team has arrested a local BJP leader in Guwahati after it registered a suo motto case alleging a scam in the recruitment of employees in the panchayat and rural development department.
On the basis of some preliminary evidence, the police team probing the scam held Rajib Parashar from a Dhaba after conducting a raid at his residence in Sixth Mile area in the city.
Many startling revelations are believed to have tumbled out during interrogation and a few names of senior political leaders and bureaucrats are coming to light.
The recruitment process took place 2 years back with a written test where lots of allegations and anomalies surfaced. The allegations were denied by the government.
But the things have taken a dramatic turn when the police recruitment scam touched off a seismic wave of anger within BJP where many senior police officers and party leaders have been arrested.

Assam will go to the two or three phase assembly polls before April 10 next year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will likely be visiting Assam in February with a slew of programmes lined up two months before the assembly polls. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Tezpur MP RP Sarma said that he invited Modi to attend the Sankardev Sangha annual session at Sivasagar on February 8.
