Photo caption
In most photo captions the first sentence identifies the people and place in the photograph and supply the date and location where it was taken. Bombs recovered from Barpeta bus

The Barpeta police have recovered two powerful bombs from a bus operating under the Assam State Transport Corporation in the district on Saturday..

According to information, the two bombs have been found during a routine check by the police at the ASTC bus stand on Barpeta Road. The two bombs were kept inside two polythene bags were kept in the luggage carriage of the bus. The bus was bound for Guwahati. The bomb left abandoned was later defused by the bomb disposal squad. Investigation is going on but no one has so far been arrested.

Girl gangraped and killed in Baithalangsu

A gang of miscreants raped a girl before mercilessly killing her in Karbi Anglong sending huge shockwaves and anger across the state on Friday.

The bizarre but brutal incident took place in Baithalangsu in the hills district on Thursday night and the lifeless  girl was spotted near the road on Friday morning.

According to police, the miscreants  caught her to be gangraped and then killed as she was on her way back from a cultural function at night.

“We are waiting for the post mortem report to carry on the investigation,” said a police officer.

Police, however, have detained seven teenagers in this connection who were being interrogated to ascertain their role.

Local residents and various organizations have demanded strict punishment for the miscreants who committed the henious double crime. They are likely to hold protest meeting on Sunday to raise the demand.

A man was caught by police late last night at Musalmanpara under Bhawraguri police outpost in Kokrajhar district.The arrested was identified as Sultan Ali of Musalmanpara under Gossaigaon sub-division.A country made caribine,an IED was recovered from him.
