Keeping in view of the ensuing LS poll in the district,Udalguri district administration has completed all the formalities for the smooth conduct of the LS poll in the district on April 24 under 8 Mangaldai LSC. A special press meet was held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioners office on March 7, where media persons of the district were informed of the election related activities. The meeting was presided over by Sadhana Hojai,Deputy Commissioner of the district. On the occasion she told media that three LACs namely 64 Paneri, 69 Udalguri (ST) and 70 Mazbat would be under her administration while 65 Kalaigaon LAC would be controlled by Darrang administration. According to her in 64 Paneri LAC,with 1,21,577 voters (62857 male and 58720 female) 63 sensitive, 49 very sensitive and 20 critical polling stations; in 69 Udalguri (ST) LAC with 1,25,545 (64287 male and 61258 female), 58 sensitive ,43 very sensitive and 3 critical polling stations and in 70 Mazbat LAC with 1,20,724 voters (63369 male and 57355 female) 18 sensitive,65 very sensitive and 7 critical polling stations had been identified and security arrangements have been arranged accordingly. The DC further stated that in 64 Paneri 153,in 69 Udalguri (ST) 159 and in 70 Mazbat, 150 numbers of polling stations have been arranged for the poll.
ND Pathak,District Election Officer,Udalguri disclosed that ninety three percent of the voters photo identity cards have already been distributed among voters and remaining s would be distributed before the poll. SR Mili,SP in charge of the district said that 51 numbers of paramilitary companies have been saught by the district administration during election time. He said operation to seize unauthorised arms would be launched shortly. Dibakor Doley,ADC and in-charge of Model Code of Conduct and Personnel Cell requested media not to publish sensitive news in a hurry during election time. He assured media personnel that photo identity cards would be issued to enlisted journalists of the district so that they could visit polling booths during or before election. District administration opened the Contrl Room telephone number (03711-224475) for people.

In a very tragic and barbaric incident, Puspanjali Das (19)wife of Chandan Debnath of Thakuriapara village under Bhergaon sub-division in Udalguri district has been burnt down alive on Saturday noon for non-payment of marriage dowry. The incident has shocked the district. The lady was put in a sac before thrown in a fire lighted in a heap of hay. Puspanjali was married to Chandan just three months bac.
