In a fierce gun battle, a hardcore NDFB (S) cadre was killed at Auzar Guri under Serfanguri Police Station in Kokrajhar district today. He has been identified as Lakiprasad Basumatary @ B Laijam of Aflagaon (Singibili) in Kokrajhar district and 39th batch cadre of NDFB (S).

Police sources said that three suspected NDFB (S) cadres came at Auzar Guri in a motor cycle where an encounter took place with the security forces. Police recovered one AK 56 rifle, one grenade, 160 live ammunitions, one magazine, 3 mobile phones, Rs 3000 cash, etc from the slain militants. Two militants managed to escape.

Sources said that the incident occurred at around 12.15 pm. Several rounds of ammunition were fired from both sides where an NDFB (S) cadre was killed. The villagers flee helter-skelter after hearing the gunfire and took shelter in nearby schools.

The villagers also heard the sound of grenade blast allegedly lobbed by the security forces where the slain militant was hiding in a bush.

Meanwhile, platoon of NDFB (S) cadres show their strength displaying automatic weapons in the nearby forest area where an encounter took place.

Area Commander B Jwblang retort the encounter and shot three rounds in the air declaring to take revenge within a very short time.

Election observer visits Chirang

The Election Observer for Expenditure for 31-Sidli (ST) LAC Jaginder Singh, IRS on Tuesday arrived at Kajalgaon in Chirang district.
