A full scale drive to evict the illegal settlers in Guwahati saw the demolition of over one hundred huts and buildings evoking mixed response across the food-hit city on Monday.
Comprising executive magistrates, GMDA, GMC, water resources development department officials along with security forces, the specially setup teams launched the drive in the morning from Bhangagarh area where many houses belonging to the daily wage earners were demolished.
A number of buildings was not spared in the eviction drive near the Bharalu river in Rupnagar, Athgaon areas apart from Bharalumukh areas.
A section of the residents wecomed the move while some others opposed it saying that the poor lots are the victims.
Meanwhile, the Kamrup district administration has set up camps to accommodate the displaced people.
