Truckers attacked, money looted
The round-the-clock-vigil seems to have failed to ensure safety and security for the people even on the national highways. Goons looted money and attacked two truckers in the outskirt of Guwahati on Monday.
According to information, the incident took place at Bongalkuchi in Rongia where a truck from Bihar carrying wheat was forcibly halted by a group of armed goons in the wee hours.
Then they sprang upon the truckers with sharp weapons where the duo and looted Rs 25,000 in cash. Police on patrolling duty arrived on the spot. But by then the dacoits vanished in the dense fog. The injured truckers are battling for life at the hospital.

Thousands thronged to pay their last respect to the departed artist Adya Sarma at Nalbari Art School here today before the body of the noted artist was assigned to flames. Sarma, popularly known as ‘Guruji’, died here last evening at a private hospital. He was suffering from old-age ailments. Born in 1929 at Makhibaha in Nalbari, Adya Sarma’s contributions to the field of art and culture brought him accolades from across the state. He was awarded the prestigious Bishnu Rabha Bota, the Asom Natya Sanmillan award, Bhaben Baruah award,Pranab Baruah Silpi Bota amongst others. A doyen of the theatre movement he was also the founder of Nalbari Art School.
Assam mobile theatre pioneer Adya Sarma passes away on Sunday. He was 75. The end came at 12 noon at a local nursing home in Nalbari where he was admitted a few days back. As soon as the news of Sarma’s demise spread like wild fire, thousands of people thronged his house and paid him their last respect. A pall of gloom has descended following the death of Sarma , who was known for his relentless efforts and skill for mobile theatre.“We are left orphan. We have no one around us,” said Rinu Das who is involved in mobile theatre. A visibly disappointed Ritul Lahkar told Assam Times that Sarma’s death is a huge loss for the state’s cultural field where he where he gave mobile theatre....
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) will produce Sahanur Alom in court today a day after police arrested from Nalabari district on Friday night in connection with the Burdwan blast.Sources told Assam Times that NIA will produce him before a special court in Guwahati later today seeking remand of the blast accused for 15 days. Alam was in a disguise when picked up during a joint operation by NIA and Police.A special team of police and NIA has been interrogating him in Guwahati after he was rushed to the city. Two people were killed in the blast which took place in a house at Khagragarh in Bengal's Burdwan district on October 2.
Amid fluttering in Congress over move of 20 MLAs to join BJP, Rongiya MLA Ghanashyam Kalita said that nobody from the ruling party will switch loyalty to BJP. Talking to reporters in the sidelines of a function on Saturday, the Congress legislator said that no legislators from his party will switch loyalty to BJP or AGP.He said,” Congress party is not teeming with a bunch of opportunists. These people are available in AGP or BJP but not in Congress.” He further said that cabinet reshuffle is the need of the hour. According to him, everybody inside and outside the party wants chief minister Tarun Gogoi to reshuffle his cabinet.
