73 relief camps in Kokrajhar

There are still 73 relief camps running where 1,54,305 inmates are taking shelter and 25 police fixed pickets have been set up to the displaced places in the district, said Thaneswar Malakar, Kokrajhar DC on Friday.

Malakar while speaking the reporters today at DC office conference hall said that the relief camp have decreased 73 from 81 camps in the three sub-divisions like Kokrajhar,Gossaigaon and Parbatjhora in the district. Altogether 61,250 inmates are taking shelter in 31 camps in Kokrajhar sub-division,87,978 inmates are taking shelter in 37 and 5077 are taking shelter in 5 camps in Parbatjhora subdivision respectively and sufficient relief materials are providing to the camps,said Malakar.

He said that 33 persons were killed in the carnage and post carnage and government will provide Rs.5 lakhs each to the kin of deceased as ex-gratia and injured will also be given compensation,besides house burnt and damaged after carnage in the district.

He said that relief works for the welfare of the inmate and affected peoples are running in full swing and government have made sufficient steps for the cause.He said that government have deputed five more ADC and two IAS officers in the district to over see the situation and situation has returned normalcy and expected that peace and harmony will be restored within short period of days in the district among all sections of community.

He has thanked all individual or organisation who were provided relief materials to the inmates including DCs from Dibrugarh,Dhubri,Baksa and Guwahati (mtero) for extending relief materials in the district.

Security forces have intensified their combing operation against militant outfits in the region.  Three link men/over ground worker of the National Democratic Front of Boroland-Songbijit faction were apprehended by security forces in a joint operation at Ripu Reserve Forest on Sunday morning in Kokrajhar district. Over 15 shops along the Fakiragram main Bazar in Lower Assam’s Kokrajhar district have turned into ashes.  The fire damaged worth of nearly 50 lakhs properties following fire in gutted on Friday late night. A businessman was hospitalized after attacked with sharp weapon by miscreants at Champa bazaar area on Friday evening in Kokrajhar district. An emergency response mock drill was conducted by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) at Habrubari in Kokrajhar district on Friday,which was a part of offsite emergency mock on the IOCL Guwahati-Siliguri underground pipeline to test the preparedness of its emergency personnel.
