Continuous erosion caused by Dikhou river has now become a threat to the existence of the historic Gorokhiya Dol located in Nazira. The lackadaisical attitude of the concerned departments has left the monument in a deplorable condition. If nothing is done at the moment, the monument built in the 17th century during the reign of the Ahom kings, may soon become extinct.
President of Axom Xahitya Xobha Imran Shah visited the office of the NGO Pragati and Freelance Journalist Association, Nazira on October 31. He was accompanied by the central executive member of Axom Xahitya Xobha Juga Gogoi and the secretary of Sivasagar district Xahitya Xobha Jivon Kalita. Shah was felicitated by the members of the both organisations.

In the memory of the victims of serial bomb blast at Guahati on October 30, 2008, Nazira regional unit of All Assam Studnts Union observed anti terriost day at Nazira. On this occation over 1000 earthen light were lightened by the AASU activitists in the bank of the historic Borbaruah Tank and they shouted slogans against the terrorism. On the other hand Freelance Journalist Association of Nazira and NGO Pragati also observed the anti-terriost day by lightining candle light in front of their office.
All 6 candidates of All Assam Student Union, who were contesting in the election of the Student Body of Nazira HSMP School on Octobe 24, were declared as the winning candidates. Around 1000 voters of the glorious Nazira HSMP School were casted their votes to form their union. Nazira Regional Unit of AASU feliciated the winning candidates and took out a rally in Nazira town on Friday.

Demanding all-round development of the Nazira subdivision, the Nazira Subdivisional unit of Brihottar Asomiya Youva Mancha, a large numbers of people ook out a protest rally at Nazira on Thursday. Later they submitted a memorendum to the SDO(C), Nazira. 64 elementary teachers of Nazira who were appointed under operation black board scheme were not paid salaries for last 19 months. While protesting on Thursday, they have destroyed the block elementary education office, Nazira. Shouting slogans against the education department, the angry teachers broken windows, doors and furniture of the office and burnt several files. Later police controlled the situation.
All Tai Ahom Student Union (ATASU) will burn the effigies of the Prime Minister, Union Tribal Affairs Minister and Chief Minister of Assam on August 26 protesting statement of the Union Tribal Affairs Minister regarding the ST Status to the Ahom, Koch Rajbanshi, Motok, Moraan, Tea Tribes and Chutia communities of Assam. Declaring it at a press meet at the ATASU office, Nazira the central general secretary of ATASU said that the they will block the rail road in every districts of Assam on August 28 and also block the Mohanbari Airport, Dibrugarh on September 2.
