Preparation has got underway  to observe the 25th death anniversary of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma,former president of the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU)  as Silver Jubilee in a grand way on May 1 at Thulungapuri Dotma in Kokrajhar district.

The observation would be organised by the ABSU to mark the anniversary of late Bodofa Brahma who had dedicated his whole life for the Bodos and welfare of the down trodden communities in the state as well country.

 Lawrence Islary,general secretary of the students union told that the student body has decided to observe the 25th death anniversary of Bodofa UN Brahma by inviting prominent leaders associated with the Bodoland movement. He said that the leaders of the organizations who had actively participated included Bodo People’s Action Committee (BPAC), All Assam Tribal Women’s Welfare Federation (AATWWF), Bodo Volunteers Force, student leaders from Arunachal Pradesh, from the year 1986 to 1990 had been invited for felicitation and discussion on the works and ideology of Bodofa UN Brahma,former president of the students union.

Islary also said some senior journalists who were closely associated with Brahma during the peak of the movement had also been invited as the students union has been organising the anniversary of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma at his burial place Tulungapuri Dotma centrally in Kokrajhar district.

Premjit Narzary,president of the Kokrajhar district unit of ABSU has also urged the people irrespective of caste, creed, language and religion to participate and pay homage to the father of the Bodos as well appealed for an initiative to preserve the legacy and ideology of Brahma.

Security forces have intensified their combing operation against militant outfits in the region.  Three link men/over ground worker of the National Democratic Front of Boroland-Songbijit faction were apprehended by security forces in a joint operation at Ripu Reserve Forest on Sunday morning in Kokrajhar district. Over 15 shops along the Fakiragram main Bazar in Lower Assam’s Kokrajhar district have turned into ashes.  The fire damaged worth of nearly 50 lakhs properties following fire in gutted on Friday late night. Businessman attacked

A businessman was hospitalized after attacked with sharp weapon by miscreants at Champa bazaar area on Friday evening in Kokrajhar district. He was identified as Tamizaddin Anza ri (32) of Mozabari area. He was immediately rushed to Kokrajhar RNB civil hospital and stated to be critical. Details is awaited. 

Vehicular thief arrested

Salakati police in Kokrajhar district arrested a vehicular thief late last night at Salakati rail track.  He was identified as Naba Das of Belsar in Nalbari district, who was involved with stealing of a four wheeler Mahindra pick up van bearing registration AS-16C-2207. An FIR was registered no.138/16 with Salakati police outpost in this connection, under section (u/s) 457/380/411 IPC. 

KLO ultra held

In a joint operation launched by the security forces from Assam Police and Army apprehended a cadre of Kamatapur Liberation Organization (KLO) at Salakati village under Kokrajhar PS on Friday.  He was identified as Sonaram Roy of Balagaon area of Kokrajhar district. Mock drill in Kokrajhar

An emergency response mock drill was conducted by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) at Habrubari in Kokrajhar district on Friday,which was a part of offsite emergency mock on the IOCL Guwahati-Siliguri underground pipeline to test the preparedness of its emergency personnel. A live fire fighting exercise was carried out alongside the drill by Fire and Rescue Services personnel.
