The spirit of celebration of the World Red Cross Day on May 8 culminated with homage to Sir Jean Henry Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross Movement, worldwide.
In Baksa, in Assam, the Indian Red Cross Society organized various activities close to its theme "The Fundamental Principles in Action," at the Arnabil High School, in Bhutankhuti near Indo-Bhutan border. Baksa Sub Divisional Officer, Hemanta Prasad Rajkumar was the chief guest during the event.
Celebrations began with a screening of the Red Cross Movement and the 7 Fundamental Principles. Subsequently, a power point presentation of the diverse activities conducted by the Indian Red Cross Society, Baksa District Branch was made.
A free health check camp cum medicine distribution camp was also held as a part of the day long celebrations. Some 500 and more patients attend the camps. Dr. Tarun Chandra Boro, Dr. Dipali Prasad, Dr. Himangshu Patowary, Dr. Dwipen Das and Dr. Arjun Sarma provided humanitarian service during the camp.
The Baksa Sub Divisional Officer appreciated the efforts of Red Cross for showing utmost dedication in executing their range of activities especially during floods and disasters.
He appealed to the members of the Indian Red Cross Society, Baksa District Branch to further strengthen the Red Cross Society.
Several Life Members, Associate Life Members, volunteers and commoners were present during the event.
