Assamese travel fiction released

It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..

Stunned by the revelations of a section officials having close touch with some illegal settlers in Guwahati, Dispur is ready to probe the allegations.  Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who addressed a press conference in Dispur on Friday sad that his government will set up an inquiry committee to find out the alleged nexus between officials of different government agencies and encroachers in the capital. The enquiry panel would be set up soon to see the nexus between officials of different bodies. Nobody would be spared if found to be involved in violating the law, said Gogoi.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday accused the Modi government of pleasing big industrialists and lowering the benefits of social schemes meant for the poor people. Addressing a press conference in Dispur the chief minister sad that the budget brings smiles only to the industrialists clique and that’s why, these class of people are welcoming the budget saying that it is growth oriented. Gogoi said, " the subsidies for the poor are being withdrawn gradually. The 'achhe din' has come for big corporates, but not for the common people.”
The Narendra Modi government at the Centre has deceived Assam and its people if Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is to be believed. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Friday, Gogoi said that the much-hyped poll promises are missing in the Union Budget tabled in Parliament on Thursday. “ The Union Budget did not offer anything to the state”, said the Chief Minister. He added, “BJP and Modi charged Dr Manmohan Singh of doing nothing for the state. BJP promised to give a lot to the people of Assam, but gave nothing in the budget." The dissident Congress legislators have mounted more pressure on the party high command to replace Tarun Gogoi as chief minister. Sources told Assam Times that led by health and education minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, the dissident MLAs and ministers threatened to float a separate party if the party high command refuses to hold the CLP meeting.  They said that they are disappointed with party high command for retaining Gogoi as chief minister. Further they have been waiting for party high command’s clear cut position. But there is no such indication.   
 An eviction team cleared a huge area on Zoo Road demolishing several constructions on Friday. Officials deployed in the drive against illegal settlers told Assam Times that the drive would continue until the city is made free of encroachment.    The drive would resume on Saturday where some other huts and pucca houses would be evicted.  
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that the budget was very disappointing for Assam. Hours after Union finance minister Arun Jailtely tabled his maiden budget, Gogoi said that there is no indication of good days (achche din) for common man. This is what the focus for Assam in the Union budget. Jaitley further proposed commercial organic farming in the entire North Eastern Region apart from a sports varsity in Manipur. The proposed Sports University in Manipur might just help produce cricketers. Jaitley also was keen on inviting neighbouring countries like Nepal and Bhutan to participate in the games of the Sports University.  In a bizarre incident, an unidentified youth shot dead a school teacher inside a classroom during a teachers' training programme in Karbi Anglong district on Thursday. The incident took place in Diphu where the gunmen shot dead Sambhu Prasad Singh, a teacher in Diphu Adarsha Hindi School when he was attending a training session at the Basic Training School for TET teachers in the district. According to police, the gunman visited the school and sought permission to meet Singh, one of the participants in the training programme. A special Highway Patrol unit of the Assam Police is coming up to deal with accidents and crimes on National Highways. Official sources told Assam Times that the decision got chief minister’s nod at a meeting between Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi with Assam DGP Khagen Sarma. The DGP said that the meeting that the accident prone areas have been identified and highway patrolling would be focused on these areas. The meeting also discussed about the time limit for disposal of verification cases by police across the state.
