Dr Birubala Rabha conferred UN Brahma award

Noted social activist and organiser of Mission Birubala Dr Birubala Rabha was conferred the 12th Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award, 2015 at a function held at Commerce College auditorium hall today in Kokrajhar. 

The award has been giving every year in the name of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, former president of the All Bodo Students Union ( ABSU) and noted educationist by Upendra Nath Brahma Trust (UNBT) to keep alive of ideology and philosophy among society. 

The award carries a citation, momento, traditional Aronai and cash 50,000. 

Dr. Rabha accepting the award expressed her happiness said that it has encouraged more to work to the social protection among society. She said that she will gain more step to create awareness more on social protection and humanity. 

Among others, noted writer Brajendra Kumar Brahma, sahitya academy awardee Janil Kumar Brahma, Pramod Boro, president of Absu, UG Brahma, ex MP were present on the occasion.

A hardcore Muslim Tiger Force of Assam (MTFA) militant  was apprehended  from Fakiragram area in Kokrajhar district today during a joint search operation by the army and police.Sources said based on inputs, a mobile check post was established by the army and police from where the Muslim militant was arretsed. He has been identified as Mominur Ali of Bhodiyaguri. One .22 factory made pistol, 2 live rounds were recovered from him.

Amid tight security in the run up to the Independence Day, security forces arrested two NDFB-S militants from Chirang district on Saturday.Identified as Philip Basumatary and Bipin Brahma, the Myanmar trained insurgents were caught during a combing operation from Amguri area in the wee hours.Police claimed to have seized a hand grenade and a pistol from their possession. 
Amid tight security Kokrajhar is gearing up for the Independence Day along with other parts of the country.SP Shyamal Saikia reviewed the overall security scenario with security forces and VDP members in Kokrajhar on Friday.Saikia said steps are on to maintain the law and order in the BTAD areas during the red letter day celebrations.He told that Police, Army, CRPF, SSB and other security agencies are on high alert in the district to prevent any disrupting forces in the run up to the Independence day.He said public spots, railway tracks are kept on regular checking and situation is prevailing in smooth and healthy.  
Bodoland University teachers on Friday staged strike in front of the varsity campus demanding an early panel to review their pay packages.Shouting slogans, the protesting teachers further demand a body to redress their grievances and measures to stop commercialization of higher education.
