Gandhian Salem Nanjundaiah Subba Rao will interact with the media persons at Guwahati Press Club today afternoon at 5 pm. A fellow of Gandhi Peace Foundation and founder of National Youth Project, Dr Rao is known for his mission to uplift the spirit of youth in the world for building a new society based on love, peace, harmony and social justice. Affectionately called by everyone as ‘Bhai Ji’, Dr Rao is remembered for his enormous role in surrendering many dacoits in the Eighties.

Born in Bangalore in 1929, Dr Rao was inspired by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi since his childhood days. Eventually he became a Khadi-wearer. The freedom fighter Dr Rao was honoured with various awards including D.Lit. (by Kashi Vidhya Peeth), Bhartiya Ekta Puruskar, Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award, Rashtirya Sampradayik Sadbhavna Puruskar, Jamanalal Bajaj Puraskar, Mahatma Gandhi Purskar, Rashtriya Sadbhawna Ekta Prusaskar etc.

Gogoi's mortal remains consign to flames

Guwahati: The mortal remains of Tarun Gogoi consigned to the flames on Thursday three days after the former Chief Minister died of post COV19 complications at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital. JP Nadda suspends Guwahati visit

Guwahati: BJP president JP Nadda has deferred his two days visit to Guwahati ion Thursday and Friday in view of the demise of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi . According to state party leaders, Nadda will let the state BJP leadership know his rescheduled date very soon. Accompanied by central party observer Baijayant Jai Panda, JP Nadda was scheduled to arrive in Guwahati on Thursday to hold at least 14 party meeting ahead of 2021 assembly polls. But Gogoi’s sudden demise has disrupted the scheduled. The party also suspended all activities and announced three state mourning.

Guwahati: Top Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called Tarun Gogoi a political mentor as he paid his last respect to the former Chief Minister who passed away on Monday. Taking to media, Gandhi heaped praised on Gogoi saying that Gogoi could inject new hopes and aspirations for Assam and it's people who was least bothered about his personal life. "Gogoi's demise was a great loss for Indian politics, " said Gandhi.  Immediately after arriving on Guwahati, Gandhi along with Jitendra Singh and KC Venugopal visited the Gogoi at the official residence and condolences his death.   The he left for Shankardev Kalakhetra and paid his last respect.

Rahul Gandhi pays homage to Tarun Gogoi

Guwahati: Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi paid his tribute to Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday two days after the former Chief Minister breathed his last at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital. Gandhi, who arrived in the capital city from Goa at 9 in the morning straightly left for Gogoi's official residence in Dispur where he condoled the demise of the senior Congress leader. Accompanied by KC Venugopal and Jitendra Singh, Gandhi rushed to the Shankardev Kalakhetra where paid his last respect to Gogoi.  His mortal remains would be kept at the Shankardev Kalakhetra for Wednesday and would be cremated at Navagraga cremation ground on Thursday.

Guwahati: Veteran Congress leader and former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is dead. He passed away in the evening at Guwahati Medical College Hospital where he was undergoing treatment of post COVID complications. His condition deteriorated on Saturday as his organs did not properly respond to the line of treatment.

Congress files complaint against Himanta

Guwahati: State  Congress has filed a formal complaint against senior minister Himanta Biswa Sarma accusing him of trying to ignite communal clash by using a controversial video clip in social media.  A delegation of the party lodged the complaint at the Bhangagarh police station demanding action against Sarma as. State party president Ripun Bora said that Sarma needs to make his position clear before the police. "Why is he silent now. He announced police action against the slogan shouters. Mangoldoi: AICC leader Jitendra Singh along with a few senior Congress leaders courted arrest in Mangoldoi as they were taking out a rally opposing the three farming bills.  At around 11 in the morning, Singh took the lead of the huge protest rally flanked by Ripun Bora, MPs Gaurav Gogoi, Pradyut Bordoloi in the town.  Policemen came and detained the Congress leaders and supporters.
