Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday made it plain and simple that his government wants 2014 voter list as one of the supportive documents to update the national registrar of citizens.

Responding to the legislators who asked him to clear his position, Gogoi said that the list would be required if the documents earlier announced by the Supreme Court are not available for an indigenous citizen.

He said that his government has already moved the Supreme Court for consideration which has not so far rejected the affidavit.

Mr. Tarun Gogoi is going mad because the assembly election of Assam is approaching. He is such a person who knows only vote bank politics. He is a useless Chief Minister of Assam who has no interest to protect the indigenous communities of Assam rather he is ready to protect the illegal Bangladeshis who entered illegally to our land. The vote bank politics of Congress in Assam will lead our state to be part of Bangladesh. Tarun Gogoi will sell Assam to Bangladesh and he along with his family will settlen down in London.

Gogoi averse to budget benefit!

Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday tore apart Tarun Gogoi alleging that the chief minister was hardly interested in the budget benefit.  Talking to reporters in Guwahati, Sonowal said that central funds are available for the state. But he alleged that the Congress government has not evinced keen interest to avail off the benefits.  He said that of the total 'Rs 63,000 crore fund earmarked in the budget for 2014-15 for North East, Assam was supposed to claim a huge amount to the tune of Rs 20,000 crore. “But the Chief Minister has not motivated the officials to work day and night to ensure optimum utilisation of the funds for the maximum development of the state,”...

Home Secy to assess NRC updating

 Dispur is all set to resume the NRC works which would help the state detect the immigrants.    After formally accepting the modalities for updating the NRC prepared by the state government, the Centre has already released Rs.144 crore to the state for the project. Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami is expected to clear all the hurdles during his proposed visit the state next week. During his visit, Goswami is set to hold a few rounds of meetings with top civil and officials, political parties and organizations to take stock of updating the NRC.

20 marriage halls under scanner

Stunned by incessant criticism, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation gets tougher with the illegal commercial establishments operating in the city. GMC is all set to seal 20 marriage halls in the city with effect from August 1. Cong whip in Assembly session

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi and his loyalists will try their best to manage the floor to avoid any embarrassment in the upcoming assembly session slated from August 4. Let up in flood scene

There is marginal let up in the over all flood scenario. The water levels of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries have stated redecing during the last 24 hours. But over 50 villages in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur and Jorhat districts are still reeling under water in the second round of floods. Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger mark at Nematighat. Same it is in Beki which flowing over the danger mark at Barpeta town.

Majuli reeling under flood

The overall flood situation in Majuli remains grim where over 25,000 people living in 65 villages have been reeling under the flash flood following heavy rain. The administration has shifted the marooned families to higher places. The Jorhat district administration has been deploying extra boats, medicines, tarpaulins, kerosene and salt ready to deal with the situation.

Peace restores in Baksa

Normalcy is back in Baksa forcing the authorities to lift curfew clamped to avoid yet another string of group clash in the BTAD district. There is no report of any untoward incident during the last 24 hours from any part of the district after the Tuesday’s incident where unidentified gun men shot dead a student leader in the district.
