Sense of utter disappointment is believed to have gripped a section of senior BJP leaders in Assam over the move of nine Congress MLAs to join the party striking secret deal with the central leadership.
The disappointment came to light on Sunday a day after the nine dissident Congress MLAs met BJP president Amit Shah in New Delhi without any knowledge of the state leadership in contrary to the party’s laid down rules and regulations.
Senior party leaders are keeping mum on the lopsided development. But they are quite unhappy with the Congress MLAs who told the central leaders that they were preparing to quit Congress.
Talking to reporters after his hurricane visit to New Delhi senior leader and Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that the central leadership alone can not confirm their road to join the party. “The party has a set of procedures which need to be followed without any lapse. Only a meeting with Amit Shah is not enough to join the party,” said Sonowal.
He further said,”the party has some traditional procedure for allowing a leader to contest the polls. These would be applicable in all cases.” Hours after they joined Amit Shah in New Delhi state president Siddharth Bhattachaya said that he had no knowledge on the meeting.
