Vandalism, arson, police-picketer clash have marred the 12 hours statewide Assam bandh on Saturday called in protest against the refugee status for on Muslim Hindu and Pakistani nationals in India.
The paralyzing bandh began at 6 in the morning across the state where supporters in many places enforced the call by burning tyres on the vital roads to restrict the movement of vehicles.
A student sustained serious injury when two groups of students clashed with each other in Hojai over the bandh call. Same situation prevailed in Baihata Chariali where bandh supporters clashed with policemen.
Some other student workers blocked the National Highways in many places to stop the vehicles from plying on Saturday.
Bandh evoked total response in Guwahati city also where supporters vandalized two ASTC buses in two different cases of attack. Another ASTC bus was damaged when AJYCP activists pelted stones at the bus for defying the bandh call.
Police arrested many bandh supporters for enforcing the bandh call across the state.
