The centre is closely monitoring the prevailing law and order situation in Manipur. Violence will only compound the problem. Need of the hour is exercising restraint. This was more or less of what a home ministry team said in Manipur on Tuesday when they were on a stock taking visit to the restive north eastern state a month after 9 people died in a orgy of violence after the assembly passed three controversial bills.
The central team headed by Ashok Prasad, told the agitating people to exercise restraint when they talked to them after arriving in Churachandpur in the morning. Here is the excerpt of the speech for the agitating people.
"I can feel their pains and I understand their extend of bereavement. Loss of lives would always be a tragedy more so when it involved those who are plucked away in the prime of their lives. As a brother I share your tears and grief and as a friend I stand by you in your prayers for peace to the departed souls.
These are difficult time that we faced today. A difficult situation that can only be move forward with the help and sympathetic participations of all the stake holders. In fact the relative calm that we produced here today is a tribute to your understanding in the face of great tragedy. I appeal to all of you for continuation of this steering and I particularly the role play by the mothers and ladies of this area who have appeared in the forefront in helping to stabilized and pacified an extremely volatile situations.
I am also grateful to the elders and leaders of this area for their guidance and their directions that they have provided and continue to provide to steer us through this stormy period. I pray to them to continue to guide and advise us as we work toward the speedy resolution of the issue and the avoidance of further tragedy.
After this I'll be interacting with the different stake holders assisting and listening to their words of concerns and I will be taking their valuable suggestions. Some of you have already been interacting with the Central government and I am aware of their concerns and of the commitment of the government in Delhi to join prosperity and peace of this region with the rest of the country. It will be my endeavor to understand the nuances and complexity of the situation so that necessary and effective steps can be initiated at appropriate levels to bring back peace and stability to this area."

GUWAHATI: The Income Tax department conducted a raid at the residence of Mahabir Jain in three places in the city of Guwahati on Tuesday. Over 200 IT officials and policemen reached the residence of the leading Guwahati based businessman and started the raid which ended only in the afternoon.
TINSUKIA: The police have picked up three youths in connection with the Bordumsa shoot out where ULFA-I rebels killed a local BJP leader and his son. TINSUKIA: Security forces are fanning in the nook and corner of Bordumsa a day after suspected ULFA-I shot dead a villager and his son triggering anger across the state. Police, army and para military forces are conducting combing operation in some vulnerable areas in search of the rebels who killed Anteswar Mahanta and his son in the evening. Security forces have cordoned off a huge area to nab the six gunmen who are believed to have been hiding somewhere along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. GUWAHATI:Properties worth several crores have been reduced to ashes when a ravaging fire broke out in Fancy Bazar in Guwahati on Tuesday. The incident took place at a goodwon which caught fire early in the morning. The initial reason is said to be electric short circuit. GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students Union has strongly condemned the Tinsukia shoot out where suspected ULFA-I rebels shot dead a villager and his son who was a former AASU leader. Talking to Assam Times over telephone, AASU leaders said they dont have proper word to condemn this hineous attack on common people. GUWAHATI: The NSCN-IM rebels based in Arunachal Pradesh are believed to have detained two top ULFA-I counterparts in Changlang district for alleged extortion drive in their territory. According to sources, the pro talks Naga rebels who have been camping inside the Namdapha forest held them to detain for several hours from Sunday night charging the duo with extorting money in the neighbouring state where they are not authorized.
