The centre is closely monitoring the prevailing law and order situation in Manipur. Violence will only compound the problem. Need of the hour is exercising restraint. This was more or less of what a home ministry team said in Manipur on Tuesday when they were on a stock taking visit to the restive north eastern state a month after 9 people died in a orgy of violence after the assembly passed three controversial bills.
The central team headed by Ashok Prasad, told the agitating people to exercise restraint when they talked to them after arriving in Churachandpur in the morning. Here is the excerpt of the speech for the agitating people.
"I can feel their pains and I understand their extend of bereavement. Loss of lives would always be a tragedy more so when it involved those who are plucked away in the prime of their lives. As a brother I share your tears and grief and as a friend I stand by you in your prayers for peace to the departed souls.
These are difficult time that we faced today. A difficult situation that can only be move forward with the help and sympathetic participations of all the stake holders. In fact the relative calm that we produced here today is a tribute to your understanding in the face of great tragedy. I appeal to all of you for continuation of this steering and I particularly the role play by the mothers and ladies of this area who have appeared in the forefront in helping to stabilized and pacified an extremely volatile situations.
I am also grateful to the elders and leaders of this area for their guidance and their directions that they have provided and continue to provide to steer us through this stormy period. I pray to them to continue to guide and advise us as we work toward the speedy resolution of the issue and the avoidance of further tragedy.
After this I'll be interacting with the different stake holders assisting and listening to their words of concerns and I will be taking their valuable suggestions. Some of you have already been interacting with the Central government and I am aware of their concerns and of the commitment of the government in Delhi to join prosperity and peace of this region with the rest of the country. It will be my endeavor to understand the nuances and complexity of the situation so that necessary and effective steps can be initiated at appropriate levels to bring back peace and stability to this area."

China is worried over the recent deal to dredge the river Brahmaputra. This was what APW leader Aabhijit Sharma said when he addressed a press conference in Guwahati on Wednesday. An anti corruption and vigilance cell of Assam police questioned a circle of senior officers in the state directorate of information and public relations to probe a Rs 30 crore scam that took place during the erstwhile Congress government. A lower court in Guwahati on Monday sent Dr N Rajamarathandan to jail after police produced the CID officer before it in connection with a case where he was charged with providing classified information to the associates of Soobodh Biswas. The IPS officer who was probing the role of Soobodh Biswas in the Silapothar clash was arrested two days back after several hours of interrogation. He was accused of making public the progress of the probe he was heading in an RTI response. He was remanded to two days police custody which expired on Monday and the investigators did not seek him in remand before the court which sent him to jail for fourteen days.
A lower court in Dhemaji sent Soobodh Biswas to fourteen days judicial custody after the alleged master mind behind the Silapothar clash was produced before it on Monday. Two of his associates who were brought to Assam from West Bengal on transit remand were sent to police custody for interrogation. The duo were picked up a couple of days back to be interrogated. Biswas’ term for police remand ended and the investigators did not seek his remand before the court which then sent him to jail.
