Why don’t stop animal sacrifice

Animal sacrifice in Durga puja strikes no less shock and anger among many organizations and individuals across the state

Dozens of buffalos and goats are being sacrificed in many temples in the name of Durga puja from Tuesday. A glimpse of the buffalos, goats, ducks and pigeons being kept for sacrifice at the historic Kamakhya temple premises really shocks the animal lovers. Same it is in many places where the same shocking tradition is allowed in Durga Puja.

 “We are helpless. We have been dead opposed to the tradition of animal sacrifice. But the organizers have been refusing to read our campaign. This is a matter of grave concern,” said Shailen Saikia from Sivasagar district who has been campaigning against animal sacrifice.

Juli Chutia from Kakojan area in Jorhat told Assam Times that the people must understand the reality. “The things have undergone a sea change now. Everywhere change reigns supreme. But we don’t understand why we are still stick to this tradition. Our minds need to be changed.”

“It would take time to end the tradition of animal sacrifice. If 1000 buffalos and 5000 goats were sacrificed ten years ago, now 50 buffalos and 100 goats are being sacrificed,” said Pranjal Bora from Nagaon.

Bora who is running a non governmental organization told Assam Times over telephone that a massive campaign is the need of the hour against animal sacrifice which has yet to take place. “The campaign should have taken place at least 3 months before the commencement of the Durga puja. People from the nook and corner of the state should be aware of it. But I do hope that after 20 years the tradition of animal sacrifice would die down,” he said.

I think it is time to do away with animal sacrifice. It is a barbaric practise.It should stop both for hindu festivals as well as for other religions like for bakrid.

About 150 years back it was a 'religious custom' in India to force widows to get burnt on their husband's funeral pyre (Sati) today we consider it a barbaric tradition. Similarly, years from now, our future generations will look back at us and call us barbaric. A god who wants the blood of an innocent animal to satisfy him/her cannot be called a god. It can only be a devil/demon. Rather the people who sacrifice animals (be it Bakr Id or Durga Pooja) are devils who sully the name of their god with their crime of killing innocent animals.

The Northeast Frontier Railway has changed its time schedule from Monday. NFR officials told Assam Times that the 55613/55614 Dekargaon-Naharlagun passenger (daily) will be leaving Dekargaon at 7 am and arrive at Naharlagun at 12.30 pm, and in the return journey leave Naharlagun at 1.30 pm and arrive at Dekargaon at 7.15 pm. The flood waters continue to show receding trend. But the level of woes refuses to die down in 18 flood hit districts till Monday. Singer and film maker Sadananda Gogoi is learnt to have made stunning revelations before CBI in connection with the multi crore Saradha scam. Sources say that Gogoi whom CBI interrogated at Kolkata office for the last two days enough lead to implicate a sitting Congress MLA. The CBI team probing the multi-crore Saradha scam is looking for a huge building in Guwahati where the chit fund corp invested several crores of rupees.  According to allegations available with the country’s premier investigation agency, the six-storied building is located in Ulubari area. Sources say that Saradha has a six storied building with a builder and contractor who has constructed the building. Under tremendous pressure, the builder agreed to buy back the building at Rs 5 crores 75 lacs. He has only paid us Rs 7 lakh i.e. also under different account. On the other hand, when Sudipto Sen required money, he cheated the company with bounced cheques.    
 Two more people met watery grave on Saturday in the current flood waves that refuse to recede in 18 districts where were 16 lakh others remain affected. According to State Disaster Management Authority, two new deaths took place in Barpeta and Sivasagar districts to take death toll to 20. A total of 16,26,304 people have been affected due to the floods while 2,29,290 of them are still taking shelter in 512 relief camps set up by the district administrations. A total of 1,846 villages, under 50 revenue circles of the 18 districts, were still under water.
CBI team dealing with the Saradha scam continues to interrogate Sadananda Gogoi on Saturday a day after he was flown to Kolkata. The interrogation is underway at the CGO complex of Salt Lake where stunning revelations are believed to have been received.  According to sources, Gogoi was taken to Kolkata immediately after the CBI team recovered a lot of suspicious documents relating to his deal with Saradha boss Sudipto Sen who reached Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and Shankar Baruah through him.  
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi takes on Akhil Gogoi a day after the KMSS president alleged accepting commission money from the chit fund companies.  Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday dared AGP and BJP to come out with evidence to substantiate the allegations of his role chit-fund scam.In a statement issued in Guwahati, Gogoi said that BJP is at the helm of affairs at the Centre and that’s why, the BJP political leaders are free to come out against him with evidence.The Chief Minister further said the home and political department had handed over 15 chit-fund cases to the CBI vide letter No.PLA(V)151/2012/186 on May 6 last year, while the apex court entrusted the cases to the central investigating agency on May 9 this year. //
