5th Jeevan Kite & River Festival kicks off

The 5th Jeevan Kite & River Festival kicks off with the theme‎ "Brahmaputra Campaign‬"  from January 1, 2016.  This campaign is an effort to connect the urban generation with the river. The event will continue till January 7 at Rajaduwar Ghat, near Sukreswar Park, Guwahati. Kite flying, adventure sports, cultural shows are some attractions of the event.

A quake survivor is battling for life at AIIMS after he was shifted to Delhi on Wednesday. Abhijit Barua who was on visit to Nepal sustained serious injury in the massive tremor on Saturday was initially rushed to a local hospital in Kathmandu was flown to AÍIMS on Wednesday where he was taken to the country's premier hospital for better treatment. 
Yet another quake survivor family is arriving in Guwahati on Thursday. Arjun Upadhyay and his family members arrived in Delhi on Wednesday by an IAF plane. " We are fine and ready to leave to Guwahati on Thursday," they told Assam Times. 
In yet another clash that sends shock and anger, miscreants killed a local youth in Kamrup on Thursday. The clash took place at Bihdiya in Chaygaon at a bihu function in the wee hours where Tirth Das received grave injury to be shifted to GMCH where he died. Police, meanwhile, held local youth Ranjit Kalita in this connection. Talking to Assam Times, the local residents blamed liquor consumption for the incident. 
 Five more people from Assam who escaped death in Nepal are arriving Guwahati on Thursday. All these people who sustained injury in Nepal were flown to Delhi three days are all set to come to Guwahati on Thursday.
There is no trace of two people from Assam who went missing during the massive tremor in Nepal on Saturday. "We have not been able to find out the duo. But we are still trying to ascertain their whereabouts," said an officer who deals with the calamity.
The bodies of six women who died in Nepal tremor were cremated in Guwahati on Wednesday. People thronged in thousands at their houses in Guwahati when the bodies arrived in the morning a day after these bodies reached Delhi. After paying last respect, the bodies were taken to the Navagraha to be cremated.
