The 5th Jeevan Kite & River Festival kicks off with the theme "Brahmaputra Campaign" from January 1, 2016. This campaign is an effort to connect the urban generation with the river. The event will continue till January 7 at Rajaduwar Ghat, near Sukreswar Park, Guwahati. Kite flying, adventure sports, cultural shows are some attractions of the event.
Assam steps up relief and rescue operations in Nepal after the ravaging earthquake visited the Himalayan kingdom on Saturday. Nearly 100 people from the state are looking for their near and dear ones who are traceless. As many as 15 people people from the state have been shifted to Delhi while some others are being shifted on Monday. An additional DGP is leaving for Kathmandu to oversee rescue relief and rescue of Assamese people in Nepal. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi who is on Australia visit is in close touch with the officials who are dealing with the situation.
Five members of a family from Assam have been remaining traceless 48 hours after massive quake rattled on Saturday. Hailing from Dergaon in Golaghat district the family members had been running a business in Kathmandu. From Saturday the entire family has been remaining traceless. Repeated efforts to contact them proved failure.
Four women died in the Nepal tremor on Saturday. The bodies are being kept at the hospital morgue. Names are expected to be announced at anytime. Chief ministe Tarun Gogoi asked ADGP Umesh Kumar to visit Kathmandu to ensure safe rescue.
Altogether 12 people from Assam have safely landed in Delhi from Nepal a day after a massive earthquake struck the Himalayan kingdom. The authorities who are intensifying relief and rescue operation took them to Delhi along with 300 others on Sunday. All they are lodging at a huge hotel. Efforts are on to rescue the remaing others.
Assam BJP sounds poll at a huge rally in presence of party president Amit Shah in Guwahati on Sunday. In his address at the Veterinary Playground, Shah urged the people to make the state Congress free. He further claimed to have done away with scam with the last 10 months.
Three back to back tremors struck no less panic in Assam along with other eastern states on Sunday. The first tremor was felt at 12.30 noon forcing the people to come out from the high rise buildings. The 6.7 magnitude tremor was followed by two after aftershocks within 30 minutes. A number of buildings is believed to have developed crack.

Hundreds of people from Assam are leaving for Nepal in search of their near and dear ones who have been remaing traceless after the massive strike that rocked the Himalayan kingdom. Over 3000 people are leaving for Kathmandu by bus and train to seek their relatives, mostly of whom went for eye treatment. They told Assam Times over telephone from Nepal that they are hoping against hope as the traceless people, mostly have not surface. An inclement weather and collapsed communication network made it difficult to expediate relief and rescue operation.
Over 250 people hailing from the state are believed to have been missing after the 7.4 magnitude earthquake originated in Nepal on Saturday. They, mostly, were on visit to Kathmandu for eye treatment. A 6 member family from Morigaon district has been missing in the capital city of Nepal after the massive tremor on Saturday. Hailing from Sapbari area, they were on visit to Kathmandu for eye treatment. "Despite efforts we have been failing to get them over telephone," family members told Assam Times.
