Kidnappers arrested

Police have last evening apprehended two persons- Ramen Barman and Rameswar Saikia, the masterminds behind the kidnapping of a small time businessman Hazrat Ali, who was kidnapped on 29 December from Tulsibari under Rangia police station in Kamrup district.

According to police, Ramen  Barman of Shahpur and Rameswar Saikia of Suwapur, both under Tamulpur police station in Baksa district kidnapped Ali at gunpoint in a Tata Sumo, identifying themselves as NDFB-S adn wearing SSB uniform on the evening of December 29 last when Ali was returning home from his shop at Tulsibari under Rangia police station in Kamrup district.

Police said, the kidnappers along with other associate took Ali to Lotibari under Tamulpur police station in Baksa where he was kept at the house of Saikia elder sister’s place.

Police have on December 31 rescued Ali and arrested one Riyan Das alias Raju Kumar alias Amit Kumar of Bihar’s Akbar Nagar in connection with the case. He is jail now, police said.

BJP leader quits

Former president of Kokrajhar district unit of Bharatiya Janata Party, Binati Bala Basumatary resigned from her party membership on Monday.  Basumatary submitted her resignation letter to the state party president citating personal reason . She was Kokrajhar district BJP president for 2011-2015, who had gained strength of the party through her strong leadership in the district. Basumatary's quit of the party ahead assembly election would draw a set back party strength in the Kokrajhar. Basumatary is likely to join ruling BPF party within couple of days, said a close aid of Binati. 

NDFNB(S) ultras held

Three cadres of the NDFB(S) were arrested by security forces in a joint operation belonging to police and army at Hakata village under Barama PS in Baksa district on Sunday. The cadres were identified as Jwangsar Boro @ KK, Mohit Mushahary and Pramod Ramchiary @ Khankari @Raja   of Baksa district. They were actively involved in extortion, arms smuggling and other nefarious and anti national activities and Adivasi carnage in December(2014) and had run away and sheltered themselves in Chennai, till their return. Two pistols along with 4 live rounds, a hand grenade and three mobile phones were recovered from them. Mohit Misahary is a cadre of 39 Batch NDFB and trained in Myanmar.
