A few hours after two companies of ULFA's crack unit, the banned insurgent outfit has threatened to target the minister along with a section of political leaders alleging that they have been engineering a divide in the outfit. ULFA commander-in-chief Paresh Baruah in a message emailed last evening said Tarun Gogoi was toeing the same line as that of former chief ministers Hiteswar Saikia and Prafulla Kumar Mahanta.
He warned the Chief Minister to recall that these ULFA cadres had in the past made several attacks on minister Bhumidhar Barman and that Barman, survived three attacks during 1992-96 when he was an education minister in the then Congress Government of Hiteswar Saikia.
An angry Baruah said while the outfit had already disbanded the A company of its 28th battalion, it had given an opportunity to the C company members to return to the ULFA fold by accepting their mistake and asking for pardon.
Notably, A and C cadres of ULFA’s dreaded 28th battalion has announced an unilateral ceasefire recently saying it a step to boost the peace process.
