Media T20 trophy won by DY365

The DY365 eleven has won the 3rd TG Baruah Memorial Media T20 Cricket Tournament 2016. They beat Janasadharan-Assam Talks team in the final match played on Tuesday at Judges Field of the city.

Winning the toss the DY365 captain Dhiraj Hazarika decided to bat first and his team after utilizing all 20 overs scored 124 runs. Diganta Deka (25) and Ankur Barthakur (18) contributed for DY365, where as Lakhyajit Gogoi captured two wickets.

In reply, Janasadharan-Assam Talks could score only 92 losing all wickets in 16.1 overs. Anupam Hazarika (33), Prasanta P. Dutta (11), where as Ankur Barthakur took three, Binay Kalita two and Rabin Das captured two wickets. Ankur Barthakur was awarded with the man of the match trophy.

All together 16 teams representing various media houses of Assam had participated in the tournament. Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner M. Angamathu, DTO Gautam Das, cultural personality Gopal Jalan and many senior journalists including Assam Talks editor Atanu Bhuyan, DY365 managing editor Pranay Bordoloi, independent journalist Nava Thakuria etc enjoyed the final match.

In a major setback for the Congress, which has been struggling hard to regain strength since 2014, has today lost two of its prominent faces in Assam. Sitting MLA of Badarpur, Jamaluddin Ahmed and former MLA of Dergaon Aroti Kachari Hazarika passed away. The Dergaon politican was 59. The two leaders' deaths were mourned by many including APCC president Ripun Bora, former minister Bismita Gogoi, among others.
Noted Assamese linguist and former Cotton College professor Dr. Ramesh Pathak is no more. The professor has passed away today after a brief illness. His death is mourned by many. Born in Tihu, Nalbari Dr. Pathak has made tremendous contribution in the field of the Assamese linguistic by penning a number of books. Guwahati : In a first, AASU leadership has reined in Samujjal Bhattacharya saying that the yet to be inducted adviser is not competent to make any statement on behalf of the state's influential student body. Celebrated Assamese dramatist Sewabrat Baruah is no more. One of the finest dramatists of the contemporary era, Baruah passed away last night after a prolonged illness. The news has saddened all Assamese drama-lovers. His demise is mourned by many. A few months ago, he suffered a brain stroke. A Dimapur-Guwahati bus has, on Saturday, met with an accident at Golaghat. As per reports the bus while heading to Dimapur accidentally veered off the main road in the wee hours at Garampani. Fortunately, all passengers were safely rescued. The driver and the handiman of the bus ran away after the accident, sources said.
The United Liberation Front of Assam(Independent) Assam has claimed the responsibility of the blast that occurred at upper Assam town of Digboi, near an army camp.
