Deplorable condition of Tangla CHC

The sorry state of affairs and absence of on duty doctors in some government hospitals in the state is not unheard of. Proper health care has remained a far cry for the poor people of Tangla and neighbouring places as doctors employed in 30 beded CHC Tangla are busy either serving their patients in their private clinics or remain unattended during the duty period.

A similar incident happened at the 30 beded CHC Tangla on Sunday. An aged high pressure patient named Gopinath Das was left unattended for more than a hour. The on-duty doctor Dr.Biswajit Oja who was duty-bound to treat patients from 2.30 pm was absent.

When this correspondent called the doctor at 3.10 pm over phone the doctor blantly replied "I am at Borengajuli Satra for naam-kirtan...I will be there". The Satra is at a distance of more than 12kms from the hospital. The on duty nurses said" Currently, Instead of five doctors we have been running the hospital with only three doctors".

The critical condition of the patient prompted the nurses to refer the patient to Mangaldai Civil hospital by 102 ambulance.

Ironically such incidents make the common man's right to proper treatment at the government-sponsored hospitals of the state a far cry . The Assam health department’s much-hyped ‘Good Health For All’ has only become a farce in today’s context.

It is the government hospitals in Assam that are in dire need of treatment. Thanks to the lofty promises of the health department of the Assam government. For want of proper care, these hospitals cannot but, neglect the patients and leave them to their fate.
