The ULFA cadres and leaders who have recently announced an unilateral ceasefire with the government on Friday have entered the designated camp set up by the government. These people include Mirnal Hazarika, Moon Bora and Jun Bhuyan who have already been expelled by ULFA central leadership recently.
According to information, the Assam government has arranged their designated camp a the abandoned building of the Sadiya jail for the A and C company cadres of ULFA’s 28 battalion, now in ceasefire. But as per the government rules, they have not deposited their arms and ammunitions after the government received a list of 67 cadres. Police sources here confirmed that these people will ensure their own safety and security. The government will only arrange their food and lodging. Both the A and C companies will keep one of the camp’s keys with them while another will be with Tinisukia superintendent of police. Police will monitor their security from outside only.
Notably, on June 24, 2008, these cadres of two companies of ULFA’s 28th battalion came over ground and announced unilateral ceasefire with the government citing the need of a peace process to ensure talk between ULFA and the government. This was followed by a press conference of these cadres at Amarpur in Sadiya where these cadres have made their ceasefire public and solemnly pledged to save the identity of the indigenous Assamese people which they said have been facing a serious crisis these days. The entire process for the unilateral ceasefire led by the crack unit’s captain Mrinal Hazarika, who was later expelled by the ULFA central leadership long with Moon Bora and Jun Sonowal.
A few days after this announcement, these cadres have started building public opinion for a peace talk meeting several parties, organisations and individuals. They are also holding some public rally to push the peace deal. Recently, on July 7, ULFA central leadership announced the expulsion of the trio. But they have vowed to carry forward the process.
Dozens of people sustained injury when a passenger train jumped off the tracks in Jagiroad on Wednesday. The incident took place in the wee hours when ten coaches of the Dimapur-Kamakhya passenger train toppled from the rails leaving 50 injured. Security forces seized a huge cache of plastic explosives from three youths who were on their way to target a power station in Dhemaji district on Saturday.According to police, the three youths, sped away on their motorcycles, when signalled to stop during a routine check near the Panbari border outpost under Gerukamukh police station.They were caught and arrested following a chase after three packets of plastic explosives, five packets of fuse wire, six fuses and daggers were found in their possession.Identified as Pranendra Wari, Nakesh Narzari and Hemkanta Narzari, they were targeting the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation at the Gerukamukh dam site.

Over 50 people have been injured when an ATSC bus overturned in the outskirt if Guwahati on Friday. The accident took place when the Assam State Transport Corporation owned bus on its way to Guwahati from Barpeta, was trying to overtake a truck when it overturned and rolled down the road to a nearby field in Nayanpur area.The condition of five injured was stated to be critical. They were admitted to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital, while the others are being treated at the Hajo Primary Health Care centre.
