In a bizarre move that leaves the BJP-led government red faced on the floor on Monday, AGP thrashed the Narendra Modi Government at the Centre for the controversial move on the Hindu Bangladeshi nationals.
Former Chief Minister and AGP leader PK Mahanta said that he was dead opposed to the move and that it would be an insult to the spirit of Assam Accord.
However, AGP president Atul Bora who holds the agriculture minister looked very disappointed when his predecessor rose to speak on the controversial move to give refugee status for the Hindu nationals of the neighbouring countries.

The Dimapur incident that sends shock and anger across the north eastern region has reached the Gauhati High Court.The court has issued directives to the Centre and Nagaland government asking for adequate security inside and outside the jails to avoid the March 5 like situation where a rape accused was dragged out of the Dimapur Central Jail to be lynched on the street.The court directive was issued acting on a public interest litigation moved by Rajib Kalita on Monday. a division bench of the court further asked the Nagaland government and Centre to submit a report before it.Kalita in his PIL further sought a CBI probe into the entire incident to be monitored by the court.

Just a year ahead of the assembly polls, Chief minister Tarun Gogoi seems to have targeted the small tea growers when he presented the state budget for 2015-16 on the floor of the House on Tuesday.Gooi has proposed to amend the welfare policy for these tea growers apart from promising funds to self-help groups of small tea growers to set up small tea factories. The Assam government has estimated non plan expenditure at Rs 39,803.45 crore for 2015-16.In his budget speech on the floor of the House, Chief minister Tarun Gogo who also holds the finance portfolio said put the plan expenditure estimate at Rs 66,142.16 crore for the period.He said that tax receipts are estimated to be Rs 12,892.39 crore while non-tax revenues for the next fiscal are estimated to be Rs 4,325.87 crore.These would out fiscal deficit at 2.18 per cent of state GDP and there would be revenue surplus of Rs 5,501.25 crore and is 2.76 per cent of estimated state GDP of 2015-16, said the chief minister.
