In a bizarre move that leaves the BJP-led government red faced on the floor on Monday, AGP thrashed the Narendra Modi Government at the Centre for the controversial move on the Hindu Bangladeshi nationals.
Former Chief Minister and AGP leader PK Mahanta said that he was dead opposed to the move and that it would be an insult to the spirit of Assam Accord.
However, AGP president Atul Bora who holds the agriculture minister looked very disappointed when his predecessor rose to speak on the controversial move to give refugee status for the Hindu nationals of the neighbouring countries.

Why Can't they go and settle in west bengal? Assam is already a semi-bengal. Mahanta did a good job by raising his opinion. Ruling the govt doesn't mean you don't have a voice against election manifesto.

Assam on Wednesday has asked the Centre not to change the funding pattern. The Assam government is fully prepared to deal with the swine flu outbreak. This was what health minister Dr Nazrul Islam told the Assam Assembly on Wednesday after the state registered five cases of H1N1 outbreak.According to Dr Islam, five persons have tested positive adding that the infection is not serious in nature.Responding to query in the Zero hours, the minister said that the infected persons - three in Dibrugarh and one in Guwahati have not been admitted to the hospital. Governor PB Acharya has expressed grave concerned over the unstoppable rhino poaching incidents in Kaziranga over the years.Hours after the shocking incident, he asked for a report from park director M.K. Yadav to examine the real factors that failed to protect the one horn animal. Acharya is learnt to have favoured a complete overhaul of the security arrangements at the park .
Despite round the clock vigil, rhino poaching refuses to die down in Kaziranga. Poachers have struck the abode of one horn rhino on Wednesday sending shock and anger across the state.Forest authorities told Assam Times that the poachers killed a full grown rhino at Burhapahar range in the wee hours. The horn is missing from the carcass that bears bullet injuries.This is the sixth rhino poaching incident that riddles the world heritage site this year alone.
