In a bizarre move that leaves the BJP-led government red faced on the floor on Monday, AGP thrashed the Narendra Modi Government at the Centre for the controversial move on the Hindu Bangladeshi nationals.
Former Chief Minister and AGP leader PK Mahanta said that he was dead opposed to the move and that it would be an insult to the spirit of Assam Accord.
However, AGP president Atul Bora who holds the agriculture minister looked very disappointed when his predecessor rose to speak on the controversial move to give refugee status for the Hindu nationals of the neighbouring countries.

Why Can't they go and settle in west bengal? Assam is already a semi-bengal. Mahanta did a good job by raising his opinion. Ruling the govt doesn't mean you don't have a voice against election manifesto.

Hundreds of people had a narrow escape when security forces recovered a huge bomb from a train from the outskirt of Guwahati on Monday. The powerful bomb, weighing more than seven kg, was recovered from the compartment of the Lumding Kamkhya Intercity express at Tangiya in the morning.Security personnel spotted a plastic bag covered with a towel and wires sticking out in front of the compartment toilet near Kendukona Railway station under Rangiya sub-division.The passengers disembarked for checking the train thoroughly and senior police, civil and railway officials along with a dog squad of the Assam Police rushed to the spot and removed the bomb.

Two person were killed and over 30 others sustained injury when a powerful explosion hit a crowded place in Dibrugarh district on Sunday. The explosion took place at 7 in the evening under a truck when a round 30 people was busy with loading goods in Rajgarh town which is the main shopping point for the people.Police officials told Assam Times that the explosion took place with a huge sound but they found it quit difficult to ascertain the nature of the blast where electricity was disrupted for several hours. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has ordered magisterial inquiry into it the allegations of torture inflicted on a blind student in Nagaon two months after the incident where the room mates forced the 14 year old boy to drink his urine.The incident took place on September 26 in the Sreemanta Sankar Mission Barhampur Blind School where Deba Tati from Tezpur was allegedly forced to drink urine by his room mates.
