AASAA rally for ST status in Kokrajhar

The All Adivasi Students Association of Assam (AASAA) slammed the BJP led alliance government for their failed to implement hopes and aspirations of Adivasi community, has warned to take mass movement by September 22 of this month if their demands and issues are meet in earliest manner.

The demands, which included granting of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, establishment of higher educational institution in the Adivasi dominated region to gain educational situation in the state.

The AASAA carried out a motorcycle rally with banner, placards; demanded early granting of ST status to the Adivasis in the state today. The rally was started from Hell along 31 National Highway at Serfanguri and concluded at Magurmari ground via Karigaon,Kokrajhar town.

Stephen Lakra, president of AASAA said that government has been failed while fulfillment of hopes and aspirations of the citizens in the state. He demanded early granting of ST status, provide educational facilities for Adivasi peoples, hike labour wages of tea estates in the state. AASAA activists shouted slogans demanding early granting of ST status,provide good wages to the tea garden workers.

“Adivasis are deprived from various aspects of welfare and development since long years.Community should be given ray of development through citizens could be developed. Government deprived us on various aspects ad schemes across the state”,Lakra said.

À three member delegation team from Sarpang district of Bhutan visit Kokrajhar on Tuesday. Led by Karma Galey, Deputy Commissioner of Sarpang district, the delegation toured many areas of  the BTAD district and called on many  officials of the district administration. Sensation prevails in Kokrajhar following unidentified miscreants killed  a temple priest on Sunday. Hours after the incident police detained two persons in this connection. According to eye witness,a group of two-four unknown miscreants wearing black clothes entered the temple near Kokrajhar railway station and brutally muredered the priest in the wee hours. According his sons, apart from performing pujas at the temple, their father dealt in lottery at daily bazar in Kokrajhar town. At least one person died and twenty others  sustained serious injuries when the bus in which they were travelling collided its head on another bus at Alipurduar in West Bengal on Saturday. The mishap took place early in the morning and both the buses were over loaded with passengers. Thr driver of a bus who sustained grave injury later died in the hospital. Other injured passengers have been battling for life at the hospital. Traffic snarl disrupted normal movement of vehicles for several hours.
