A local court in Lakhimpur remanded Akhil Gogoi to judicial custody for 14 days after the police produced the KMSS leader on Thursday. The court rejected Gogoi’s bail petition in connection with a case registered against him in 2011-12.
Thousands of KMSS leaders and workers thronged in front of the Lakhimpur CJM Court when their leader was brought to produced before it in the morning. They demanded immediate release of the peasant leader saying that the Sarbananda Sonowal Government has been trying to gag the voice of protest.
Notably, Gogoi was arrested from his office a couple of days back charging him with inciting the protest against the eviction drive in Kaziranga where two protestors died.
