Sukumar Basumatary remembered

The Bodo Sahitya Sabha recalled contributions of late Sukumar Basumatary,who is regarded as Bodo folklorist(Bodo Khuga Thunlaini Oja) towards growth of Bodo literary, on his 20th death anniversary on Tuesday. The anniversary was organized by Bodo Sahitya Sabha central committee in association with Baksa district Sahitya Sabha, held at Barama Murmela LP School ground in Baksa district.

As part of the programme scheduled, Jogen Ramchiary, president of Barama primary Bodo Sabha hoisted half sabha flag while Sahitya Academy awarded Janil Kumar Brahma paid floral homage to late Basumatary followed Sahitya Academy awadee Brajendra Kumar Brahma, Kamala Kanta Mushahary, general secretary, Dipak Kumar Basumatary, Biseswar Basumatary, vice presidents of Bodo Sahitya sabha, Mwnhashar Basumatary, Khrwmshar Basumatary, sons, Anita Brahma Basumatary, daughter in low paid floral tribute on the occasion.

A seminar on the topic of Spelling of Bodo language was also organized on the occasion to mark the observation.

Mentioned be made that Basumatary had compiled 22 books on Bodo folklore.

'Late Basumatary was a man of literary creation, who dedicated his whole life to the uplift of Bodo literary among Bodo community. His dedicated folklore literary creations today got syllabus in University education', said Janil Kumar Brahma.

Many engineering students staged dharna at the Bineswar Brahma Engineering College premises in Kokrajhar on Thursday demanding affiliation under Guwahati University without any delay.  Talking to Assam Times, agitating students asked the government to stop delaying tactics which would leave their career prospect in dire uncertainty. BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary is well prepared to quit the office if one proves the involvement of former BLT rebels in the assassination of Lafikul Islsm Ahmed. Talking to reporters in Kokrakhar on Wednesday, Mohilary said the ongoing probes by SIT and CBI would be able to negate the speculations. “I am ready to resign as BTC chief if one proves the involvement of the former rebels.”
In a rare example of kindness, the Students from Sangkhardev Sishu Vidhyaniketan in, Kokrajhar handed a cheque of Rs.10,000 over the BTC chief’s relief fund at a brief programme held at the Bodoland Guest House on Wednesday.   Students handed over the cheque to Hagrama Mohilary, BTC chief in the presence of teacher and media pesons. The amount was contributed by students to make aid to the relief fund.
The Intercity (UP) crushed yo death s person in Kokrajhar district on Tuesday. Identified as  Bakul Barman, the 58 years old man was a resident of Somayee village under Sapatgram police station of Dhubri district. According to police, he was supposed to board the intercity train by 5 am in the morning and run over by the train.
Hundreds of venture school teachers from BTAD areas staged a five-hour dharna in front of DC office in Kokrajhar on Tuesday demanding steps to provincialize their schools and to, amend the DISE code as soon as possible. Organized by All BTC Venture Primary Teachers Association, the sit in was participated by the teachers of 2065 venture schools (Lower Primary and Upper Primary) in four districts of BTAD. In Kokrajhar district alone, there are 813 venture schools.  A memorandum was submitted to Kampa Borgoyary,Deputy Chief of BTC through Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar seeking early provincialisation of venture schools.

The Centre’ decision to institute CBI probe into the assassination of Lafikul Islam Ahmed has brought a ray of hope for his family members. Talking to Assam Times, his family  members said that the CBI probe will be able to nab main culprits’ thorough investigations, who were involved with Lafikul murder case.  Lafikul was shot dead on August 1 last at Titaguri bazaar in Kokrajhar by motor cycle borne armed miscreants. The ABMSU and several organizations have been demanded CBI inquire into Lafikul murder case and on Monday Union DONER minister Jitendra Singh informed to CM Sarbananda Sonowal about the handing over CBI to investigate the Lafikul murder case.  ...
Road communication was totally disrupted since 5 am in the morning due to National Highway blockade by women in support of Bodoland state creation along the National Highways at Kajalgaon in Chirang and Orang in Udalguri districts on Monday.  Several thousand women thronged the highways to blockade the national highways at Kajalgaon in Chirang district seeking early solution of Bodoland issue.
