Aranya Suraksha Samiti releases list of Majuli birds

One of the active environment NGOs of Assam, Aranya Suraksha Samity today released a list of birds seen in Majuli river island today at Guwahati Press Club. An honest forest official of the State, Bhupen Talukder officially released the book in presence of Janardan Goswami of Dakshinpat Satra, Krishna Goswami of Sakopara Satra, Aranya Suraksha Samiti-Assam president Krishna Bora & secretary general Haricharan Das, journalist Nava Thakuria etc.

It may be mentioned that Aranya Suraksha Samiti-Assam was formed in 1996 at Orang in central Assam by a group of journalists and social activists. They started this organization to fight against rhino poaching in Orang forest reserve. It continues working for the conservation of nature and wildlife.

MARCUS ANGAMI  KOHIMA:  Odisha Governor S C Jamir mires in dire controversy a few days ahead of the assembly polls in the north eastern state of Nagaland. Nagaland BJP has lodged a complaint before the authority alleging the aged politician has been campaigning for Congress and NPF in the run up to the assembly polls slated for February 27. JORHAT: Two pilots dead when the chopper in which they were travelling crash landed in Majuli on Thursday. The incident took place at 1 in the afternoon as the IAF chopper left Rowiah on a routine sortie. All of a sudden, the local residents in Sumoimari area came to hear a huge sound in the sky when the chopper crash landed at an unmanned spot. Police, civil and army officials along with the local residents in large number reached the spot. But by then both the pilots were charred to death.

PRASENJIT SAHA AGARTALA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on his second leg of visit to Tripura on Thursday to campaign for BJP candidate for the February 18 assembly polls. Modi, who is addressing a huge gathering in Itanagar in the morning is arriving in Agartala in the afternoon. He is addressing the first rally in Shantir Bazar. This would be followed by another rally in the capital city of Agartala just before leaving back for New Delhi. The Left ruled north eastern state is going to the assembly polls on February 18 and the electioneering ends on Friday evening.
PRASENJIT SAHA AGARTALA: More than ten people sustained injury when two group of political activists clashed with each other in Tripura on Wednesday. The clash took place in Matabari area in the afternoon when two parties took out a simultaneous procession in support of their local poll candidate. All of a sudden, a section of the processionists turned violent and had an altercation provoking each other. Then the mild tussle broke into a clash where at least 15 people from both the groups sustained injury. The seriously injured processionists have been undergoing treatment in the hospital.
MARCUS KANYAK KOHIMA: Amid the electioneering heat and dust  three top CMO officials in Nagaland feel the heat of extortion charges. The trio is facing NIA interrogation in Guwahati on Thursday. According to sources NIA has issued notices to the officials to appear in the Guwahati based office to be questioned on the allegations of extortion. NIA Deputy Superintendent of Police Jasveer Singh who happens to be the Chief Investigating Officer is all set to interrogate the trio on Thursday. The investigation agency has been probing the charges since 2016. Some incriminating documents have suggested their involvement in the extortion cases in the state.
