Orang TE gets ATM
Owing to the new demonitization policy and the currency crunch across all over India; In a sigh of relief, the Orang tea estate under Udalguri district installed its first ATM (Automatic Teller Machine) on this Saturday. A collaborative meeting was held at the Orang Tea Estate which was inagurated by Sadhana Hojai, Deputy Commissioner, Udalguri. Speaking on the ocassion Hojai said, " Post-Demonitazation the workers of tea gardens had difficulty in receiving wages. But after collective efforts of government agencies and banks everyone is now entitled for wages through their respective bank accounts. "
During the inaugural meeting, Thaneswar Gohain opened the inaugural speech which was also attended by Benu Adhikari President of Orang besides representatives of Assam Branch Indian Tea Association. Officials of Assam Grahmin Bikash Bank (AGVB), tea labour's association members . After inauguration of the ATM installation of AGVB by Sadhana Hojai, DC Udalguri ,Rajni Khakha was the first worker who received her wages through the ATM facility. It may be mentioned that, the touch screen operated ATMs are an alien technology for the people of the area and it would need some lengthy time for them to use the service properly untill a proper sensitization drive is carried up in the region.
