A statue from Thailand dedicated to Lord Buddha unveiled Buddha temple in Mitta Bhava Buddha Monastery Campus at Lokhora, Guwahati on Wednes day. On occasion of Buddha Purnima, one of the most revered festival of Buddhism the statue was unveiled at presence of devotees. After hoisting the Buddhist International flag in the Buddha temple inside the campus the idol was unveiled by Buddhist priest Bhangte Nyane Tishai. He planted a peepal sappling under which species Lord Buddha had his enlightenment in Buddha Gaya. Social worker Rajib Panikhuan, D. Ganesh Pegu, Promod Shyam, Bhugeshwar Shyam, Nag Aang Kham, Teng aung Shyam, Prafulla Hafiza, Hifijul Ahmed, Mangalsing Bay and environmental worker Chandan Kumar Duarah were present in the pray to Lord Buddha. Devotees planted saplings in the campus. An organisation from Thailand offered the Lord Buddha golden brass statue of complying with a request from Assam Therawada Buddhist Welfare Society.

  NAMRUP: A leopard cub was found dead in Namrup which was believed to have been killed during a fight between two tiger on Monday. Tea garden workers spotted the lifeless cub under the tea bushes in Hapjan Estate in the morning. The body which was rushed for post mortem bore injury marks in neck and head. Later in a statement Namrup deputy ranger Pranab Kalita also doubted a fierce fighting of leopards where the cub died in attack. Leopards often keep coming down from the Joyepore reserve forest to the human habitats and tea gardens in search of food.

GUWAHATI: There seems to be no respite for Nishamoni Deka as the Gauhati High Court on Monday refused to grant anticipatory bail for the ACS officer who is on the run. Hearing the anticipatory bail plea, the high court straightly rejected it and asked the special operation unit probing the APSC scam to submit the case diary by December 15. Earlier, Deka moved a plea before the Special court to grant her anticipatory bail citing her two month old baby. GUWAHATI: Even an escalating protest across the state can't halt the massive eviction drive if Pramila Rami Brahma is to be believed. NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court is hearing a petition alleging a huge scam in the selection of candidates for ACS, APS and allied service candidate by the Assam Public Service Commission in 2013. But, Akhil Gogoi, the petitioner is absent from the proceedings since he has been languishing in the Dibrugarh Central Jail under the National Srcurity Act. Noted lawyer Prashant Bhushan us appearing on behalf of the petitioner who moved the plea before the country's top court many days ago. Several people including a journalist sustained injury when dsecurity forces sprang upon a group of people as the tried to disrupt an eviction drive at a reserved forest in the outskirt of Guwahati on Monday. NAMRUP: A group of BJP leaders and workers openly expressed displeasure with AGP MLA Naren Sonowal, who allegedly has not been listening to them.
