A statue from Thailand dedicated to Lord Buddha unveiled Buddha temple in Mitta Bhava Buddha Monastery Campus at Lokhora, Guwahati on Wednes day. On occasion of Buddha Purnima, one of the most revered festival of Buddhism the statue was unveiled at presence of devotees. After hoisting the Buddhist International flag in the Buddha temple inside the campus the idol was unveiled by Buddhist priest Bhangte Nyane Tishai. He planted a peepal sappling under which species Lord Buddha had his enlightenment in Buddha Gaya. Social worker Rajib Panikhuan, D. Ganesh Pegu, Promod Shyam, Bhugeshwar Shyam, Nag Aang Kham, Teng aung Shyam, Prafulla Hafiza, Hifijul Ahmed, Mangalsing Bay and environmental worker Chandan Kumar Duarah were present in the pray to Lord Buddha. Devotees planted saplings in the campus. An organisation from Thailand offered the Lord Buddha golden brass statue of complying with a request from Assam Therawada Buddhist Welfare Society.
Two women met watery grave in Lakhimpur when the boat ferrying a few people capsized on the middle of a river on Wednesday. The incident took place on the river Bogolijan which started swelling from Tuesday after NEEPCO released a huge volume of waters from its Ranganadi dam. As the boat reached the middle of the river, the boat suddenly capsized under the impact of the strong current forcing many local residents to come to the rescue of the passengers. SDRF jawans and local residents tried their best to rescue them. But they failed to save Pallavi Saikia and Munmi Saikia who met watery grave sending shock in the entire area.

A pall of gloom grips Meghalaya when nine people died during the last 24 hours since they ate rice packed with pork and chicken served at a church function in Ri Bhoi district on Sunday. More than 250 others have been receiving treatment in the various hospitals in Ri Bhoi and Shillong. Around 2000 people from ten villages in the district thronged the church premises of Nongya village on Sunday where they were served rick packed with chicken and pork in the afternoon. A suicide incident in Sonitpur district seems to have put a BJP MLA in dire trouble very soon. The incident took place on Tuesday morning when BJP worker Nomal Saikia was alleged to have committed suicide at his home in Bihpuria. A suicide note recovered beside the body blamed the local MLA along with s senior woman worker of the party for his extreme step. Local residents told Assam Times that during the last couple of years, Saikia was seen depressed who till the other days was working heart and soul for the ruling party.
The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council on Tuesday announced the results of the higher secondary examination where Rajbabu Saikia from Ramajujan Junior College steals the march. The second position, this time, goes to Abinash Kalita from Krishnakanta Handique Junior College in Pathsala to be jointly followed by Kunal Horo in Anandaram Barooah Junior College in Pathsala and Mridupaban Das from Saltbrook Academy in Dibrugarh. The United Liberation Front of Asom(I) has owned up the responsibility of the explosion at an ONGC pipeline in Sonari on Saturday. In a statement issued to media on Sunday, the rebel outfit said that they will continue these until and unless sovereignty is restored on the indigenous people. An ONGC pipeline was partially damaged when the explosion took place at Teok Ghat with a huge sound in Sonari district in the evening.
