A statue from Thailand dedicated to Lord Buddha unveiled Buddha temple in Mitta Bhava Buddha Monastery Campus at Lokhora, Guwahati on Wednes day. On occasion of Buddha Purnima, one of the most revered festival of Buddhism the statue was unveiled at presence of devotees. After hoisting the Buddhist International flag in the Buddha temple inside the campus the idol was unveiled by Buddhist priest Bhangte Nyane Tishai. He planted a peepal sappling under which species Lord Buddha had his enlightenment in Buddha Gaya. Social worker Rajib Panikhuan, D. Ganesh Pegu, Promod Shyam, Bhugeshwar Shyam, Nag Aang Kham, Teng aung Shyam, Prafulla Hafiza, Hifijul Ahmed, Mangalsing Bay and environmental worker Chandan Kumar Duarah were present in the pray to Lord Buddha. Devotees planted saplings in the campus. An organisation from Thailand offered the Lord Buddha golden brass statue of complying with a request from Assam Therawada Buddhist Welfare Society.
An ONGC pipeline was partially damaged when a mysterious explosion took place on Saturday evening Sonari district. The explosion took place at Trok Ghat with a huge sound. Security forces and senior ONGC officials have been examining the incident which took place two days after an Ulfa rebel died in Dikom as he was believed to have been planting a bomb at an OIL pipeline which exploded immediately. A huge rescue team of IAF, army and police is leaving for a place situated 30 km in the north west of Tezpur to recover the Sukhoi 30 a day after the missing fighter jet was located with the help of satellite images. The rescuers have been finding it difficult to reach the spot in the dense jungle terrain because of an inclement weather where the jet fighter was understood to have crashlanded. A two-day flood mock drill has began from Thursday at Basic Training Centre in Kokrajhar which has been aiming to bring awareness about pre-flood situation among official and common masses in the district.
