Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) expresses serious concern over the media reports narrating the verbal direction of Assam chief secretary Vinod Kumar Pipersenia to take stringent actions against the journalist/editor/proprietors for giving space to banned armed militant’s views.
“We should remind the State’s chief government official that the working journalists enjoy the right to maintain access to any outfits (may be banned) and even use their version in need but without justifying & glorifying it. So the anger and direction from the State chief secretary to take actions against media persons for using militants’ point of views are unjustifiable,” said a JFA statement.
However, the JFA opined that the media too should (must) not play with the militant-statements for personal scores and it is equally unjustified when a section of editor/journalists (from both print and electronic media) blow the banned outfit’s version out of proportion disregarding the national interest, added the statement issued by JFA president Rupam Barua and secretary Nava Thakuria.
