An Assamese professor in New Delhi has fetched huge pride to the north eastern region when she received a prestigious award in the national capital for her outstanding works for the country and it's people.
She is none other than Dr Arti Barua, who has received the Mother Teresa Global Award for Excellence and Gold Medal for 2017.
Baruah, who teaches Philosophy in the Deshabndhu College, University of Delhi received thr coveted award at a glittering function in IIC , New Delhi attended by former Sikkim Governor Ch. Randhir Singh.
Dr Barua was awarded for her excellent work done which is something extra – ordinary for her country and countrymen and has attained greater excellence in her field of activity and enhanced the image of India.
Seven persons received serious in different two road mishaps in Kokrajhar town on Saturday evening. Six persons sustained serious injuries due to Eon vehicle hit a scooty and bicycle at Tengapara in Kokrajhar town late last evening at around 8.30pm. Injuries were admitted immediately at MRM Hospital in Kokrajhar. They were identified as Badal Chouhan, Raja Brahma, Hatarki Mohilary, Mrinal Brahma, Dwimu Basumatary and Niranjan Basumatary. The two-day self-defence training camp for lady scribes concluded on Sunday morning at Guwahati Press Club. Organized by the Greater Guwahati Amateur Muaythai Club in association with the press club, the training on self-defence technique was participated by over 20 scribes and journalism students. A group of physicians from the Government Ayurvedic College, Jalukbari on Saturday conducted the weekly evening OPD at Guwahati Press Club for the benefit of media persons. Assam BJP leadership are believed to have been preparing a panel of senior MLAs to be finalized for the post of assembly Speaker in lieu of Ranjit Das who is set to take the rein of the state unit.Senior BJP leaders told Assam Times that they are considering the name of Siddharth Bhattacharya as suitable successor on the floor of the House. A moving train in Nagaon district crushed to death three wild elephants sending huge shockwaves to the animal lovers.The shocking incident took place at Kampur area in the morning when a train rammed into a herd of wild elephants as they came down from a nearby hill in search of food.The local villagers came to see the bodies only in the morning. “ As I was about to wake up I came to hear the horn of train. Manipur might mire in yet another orgy of violence in near future as the Joint Council of Naga Civil Society has threatened to go to any extent alleging that the governments in state and Centre have disregarded the Naga peace framework. A collection of adventure stories in Assamese named Kutkut-Tuktukar Abhiyan by journalist-writer Nilotpal Barua was released at Guwahati Press Club on Thursday. Published by Pratishruti Prakashan, the book comprises eight stories, which were earlier published in popular Assamese children monthly ‘Sofura’. The book was officially released by Rupam Barua, editor of Sofura in presence of journalists Nava Thakuria, Bedabrat Bora, Abinash Sharma etc.
