A devastating fire that broke out in Dispur has reduced to ashes a part of the Janata Bhawan on Wednesday evening.
According to information, the fire broke out at around 6 in the evening from a room and later it was dispersing rapidly to other rooms before taking a ravaging turn. As many as fifty fire tenders have been called to extinguish the fire but by then the the situation was going out of control.
According to RTI commissioner Dr B K Gohain, the Right to Information cell has been completely ravged n not even as file has been spared.
Moreover, the chambers of Nurjamal Sarkar, law minister Pranab Gogoi, parliament secretries Sarat Saikia, Bidya Singfh Inglng have been reduced to ashes in the major fire.
The authorities have yet to ascertained the reasons behind the ravaging fire that has reduced the seat of power to ashes. Initially, electric short circuit is said to be the source of the ravaging fire but a high level probe will be able to unearth the truth behind the fire.

Isn't it convenient that the Right To Information (RTI) department was reduced to ashes. A similar "short circuit" happened when the veterinary scam was being investigated. all the scam papers were destroyed by a "mysterious" fire. This time I wonder how many corrupt government officials and ministers will benefit from this fire.

In yet another significant development Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had a close door meet with union home minister P Chidambaram in Delhi on Thursday. Both are believed to have discussed the modalities for talks with ULFA. Later talking to media, Gogoi said that they want all top ULFA leaders to be involved in the process. Farmers from across Assam thronged in thousands in Dispur on Thursday to stage demonstration demanding steps to check rampant corruptions that cripples the much-hyped NREGA. Led by Krishak Adhikar Surakhya Sangram Committee general secretary Akhil Gogoi, the farmers arrived in the city in the morning and assembled at the Last Gate for the mammoth protest. The roads leading to Namrup from Sonari to Namrup as well as Nahakatia to Namrup are in very bad condition. It is hard to imagine such pathetic roads in this twentieth century. Specially in an industrial area like Namrup which houses three very important industries i.e. Bhrahmaputra Valley Fertiliser Corporation Limited, Namrup Thermal Power Plant and Assam Petrochemical limited. The suffering encountered by every people coming to Namrup because of the road, compel them to think twice before coming. The people of Namrup deserves demands better road communication. The concerned authorities and local MLA must take strong initiative for a better Namrup.

Two ULFA top leaders have yet to be released even a day after procured bail in TADA cases. Jail authorities have cited security reasons for the delay. The outfit's publicity secretary Mithinga Daimary is expected to be released on Thursday. ULFA vice president Pradip Gogoi has also yet to be released citing a delayed official procedure. According to source, Gogoi will have to ensure 12 personal bonds before the court before his release from Guwahati central jail where he has been languishing since 1998. Mithinga was logged in jail since 2004 after he was captured in Bhutan in operation all clear.
