MUMBAI: A pall of gloom envelops the film fraternity  following the sudden demise of Biju Phukan on Wednesday evening.

Award winning film maker Jahnu Barua who is attending IFFI Goa said,” I am shocked to have learnt it. He was my intimate friend although we, of late, have not met often. Bihu played main role in two of my films Aparupa and Papori. I don't have much to speak. It is a huge loss for us.”

Another epoch making actor Seema Biswas said,”we will never have such personality again. It’s a permanent loss to the nation. I pray to the almighty to give strength to his family to bear such huge loss I am really very shocked and sad after hearing it.”

Same shock echoes in Adil Hussain who said,” I am deeply deeply sad hearing the news of his death. He was like my elderly brother. He treated my with lot of affection and love. I had been a family member of his house. Bou and Bijuda always loved me and looked after me when I didn't have any money. I pray his soul Rest In Peace.”

“He is the face of Assamese cinema, a reason for a whole lot of people to love Assamese cinema. We can never forget his role in ‘Dr. Bezbaruah’, ‘Bowari’, ‘Baruar Sansaar’, ‘Bonoriya Phool’, ‘Rashmirekha’, ‘Mamata’, ‘Aparoopa’, ‘Aranya’, ‘Ajolee Nabou’, ‘Papori’ and so many.. as well as in ‘Agnisnaan’ in a totally different kind of role. Can’t stop myself mentioning his great Radio drama ‘Deuta’. From which I realised how acting with merely one’s voice can have so much of impact on a listener that can be powerful enough to make the listener cry, laugh or become angry. His voice was that convincing and innocent,” said the actor.

Talking to Assam Times in Mumbai, Dipannita Sharma said,”it is a huge loss for the assamese film industry & to the world of art & culture in general . Biju Phukan sir’s contribution to Assamese cinema is immense. Assam has lost a true gem.”

Amrit Pritam, who is also attending IFFI Goa is equally shocked to have received the sad news. He said,” it is unfortunate for all of us specially when we are all attending a film festival in Goa and we loss our Real Actor , our Superstar Biju Da.

According to Debajit Changmai, “the real superstar of our industry has left us today, its a very heart aching news. He was the real Hero, always smiling Biju Da, he made us cry and left us today. I am praying for the departed soul. And I am also praying for his family to bestow with more power and strength to over come this loss. Its a big loss to all of us.”

Urmila Mahanta maintained,”Shocking news for me as I met him few months back. Still not able to digest he is no more! A powerhouse of talent & a super star in a true sense. Huge loss for Assamese film industry.”

Baloram Das, who calls Biju Phukan his most favorite actor said during his childhood they kept watching the Assamese cinemas where Biju Phukan had a role. “We liked him more that the Hindi film actors. But I was not luck to have worked with him. He will remain alive in his evergreen roles in the cinemas.

Same  shock grips DJ Phukan who said,”Everyone born on this earth has to die one day, the final destination of any creation is destruction, in fact the very reason of an end is the start itself. Yes, we all know this but, still it’s very painful to lose someone who is very much close to your heart, precious to you.”

According to him, Bijuda was a person for each and everybody of my generation with whom we grew, trying to copy his smile, his hairstyle, his dresses, his look, his style of walking.

His voice was that convincing and innocent,” said Phukan.
