Respite at last: HC stays eviction

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court on Wednesday stayed the massive eviction drive against the illegal settlers in the Amchang wildlife sanctuary much to a major respite for many families.
A bench of the court stayed the eviction drive after the government moved a petition for a temporary stay.
The government is expected to submit its affidavit by the afternoon or Thursday morning.

But the forest officials and district administration keep demolishing the industries and factories in the wild life sanctuary.

Nearly 800 houses belonging to 1500 people were evicted during the last two days triggering shock and anger among the people across the state and a tribal group of organizations on Wednesday enforced a statewide Assam bandh in protest against it.
