GUWAHATI: Social activist Anna Hazare is on a two days visit to Guwahati took fight for the release of Akhil Gogoi whom the Assam government arrested under the National Security Act.
Hazare, who arrived in the capital is meeting many organizations and individuals and discussed the issues confronting the state. kNSS leaders in Guwahati have apprised him of the scene where Gogoi has been sent to jail.
The Gandhian leader is also set to meet thr media people in Guwahati on Friday before departing the capital:
ULFA’s anti talk faction has called Assam bandh on August 15. In a statement on Saturday, the outfit has asked the people to refrain from participating in the Independence Day celebrations. In yet another joint statement, seven militant outfits of the north east called for the boycott of the celebrations and general strike in the region on the day.
The outfits include National Democratic Front of Bodoland, Kamtapur Liberation Organisation, Coordination Committee Manipur, Tripura Peoples Democratic Front, National Liberation Front of Tripura and Hynnewtrep.
The All Assam Minorities Students Union(AAMSU) termed that BJP led alliance government totally failed while fulfilling peoples’ aspectation and aspiration in the state.The students union stages two-hour sit-in-dharna in front of DC office in Kokrajhar,demanded early distribution of textbooks to the schools, implement RTE act and appoint teachers in the schools against vacancies across the state.
Hundreds of students union activists and common publics join hnads with banner and placards in the two-hour sit-in-dharna beginning from 11 am on Tuesday in Kokrajhar district,shouted slogans demanding solution and fulfillment of various demand and grievances,which included immediate distribution of textbooks,appointment of teachers under RTE act acoss the state,provincialisation of venture school/Madrasas in the state.The students union submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister of Assam through Deputy Commissioner,Kokrajhar.
Anowar Hussain,president of Kokrajhar district unit AAMSU said that the state government tatally failure while distributing textboks as well required materials in the state.He has demanded early distribution of textbooks among school children in the state.
The North East United FC played yet another goalless draw with Pune City FC at the packed Indira Gandhi Stadium in Sarusajai on Saturday evening. Despite best efforts both the teams remained undefeated till nine in the evening.
The 0-0 draw has taken Pune FC by 12 points from eight matches. But they still remains in the third spot. The NorthEast United FC stayed in the fifth spot accumulating 10 points from eight matches.
The match started with upper hand for the NorthEast United. During this brief spell of period, they played confidently and timed their attacks without any flaw. Then FC Pune City had to sit deep in their own half.
Focus fell on Midfielder Koke whose powerful passes in the first half could not helped the team score any goal. North East United FC managed to create goal-scoring chances. The visitors also managed to hold on and went into the break with a 0-0 goal.
Despite supremacy, the home team failed to strike any advantage and a few chances eluded finally. The FC Pune City tried their level best to take the advantage. But fell on a stony ground.
