Christmas celebrated in Tangla
Along with the other parts of the country Christmas was celebrated with gaiety and religious fervour in the town, with midnight mass ringing in the festivities to mark the birth of Jesus Christ. Churches of the town wore a festive look as the faithful flocked the Baptist church and Don Bosco,Tangla Catholic church for midnight mass.
People of other religions also joined the mass and celebrations on Monday morning.
Carols were being sung, gifts exchanged among thec hildrens as well as scenes of the birth of Christ were enacted by faithfuls at the churches.
In the Don Bosco Catholic church midnight prayers were led by Bosco Mount Rector,Fr. CA John
Special Christmas prayers were held in the church on Monday morning which were led by Rector Fr. Marcus Lakra,followed by musical programmes.
A seizable number of people of Christian faith as well other faith took part in the morning prayers in the cathedrals.
The church witnessed visitors throughout the day. The town as a whole was gripped in the Yuletide spirit with colourful decorations and Christmas carols.Don Bosco Church was the main centre of Christmas celebration for the Catholic people. People lighted candles and incense sticks in the Church premises and offered prayers.Visitors of different faiths kept admiring the colourful

UDALGURI: The Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of newspaper reports of the alleged incident of police atrocities on a doctor in Chirang district on Friday.
AHRC has issued a notice to the District Magistrate, Chirang to cause an inquiry into the incident where media reports stated that the Officer-in-Charge of Amguri PS in Chirang District not only assaulted Dr. Madhurjya Kakati, in-charge of the Amteka Mini PHC but also made him to kneel down along with two others for not wearing masks.

TANGLA: A devastating inferno gutted six houses in Pujakhola locality of Tangla town on Tuesday night at about 9 pm.
Though the source of the fire has not been ascertained ,fire broke out followed by explosion of six cylinders razing the properties worth lakhs to the ground within minutes.
The house belongs to Fakira Ansari, Manik Ali,Bhim Ram,Raj Kumar Prasad,Akon Rabha and Sankar Basfor.

UDALGURI: A baby hog deer weighing about six kilogram was rescued by Mithu Sarkar and Ankit Tanti, two activists of Green Valley Wild Life Protection Society, an NGO of Orongajuli tea estate area today at about 3.00 pm and handed over this to the Udalguri forest department in a healthy condition.
While talking to this correspondent, Mithu Sarksr informed that the NGO has been instrumental to rescue young ones of hog deers, wild elephants, tiger cubs in the near past too and till date, it has been able to rescue such animals which came to their notice.

TANGLA, May 20: In an unfortunate turn of event a 32 year old reputed businessman Roshan Patowary an inhabitant of Ward No. 4 of Tangla town in Udalguri district was electrocuted to death while fitting an inverter battery at his residence at about 8 pm on Tuesday night.
