Three women for rowing camp

GUWAHATI: The Assam Boat Racing & Rowing Association has dispatched three women to participate in the Senior Men & Women National Coaching Camp in Rowing at Army Rowing Node in Pune slate from Sunday to March 3. They would be allowed to participate in the Asian Games in Indonesia. The selected rowers are Ritumoni Rabha, Anita Swargiary and Semim Sultana.

Big extortion racket busted.Two NDFB leader arrested

The Udalguri district has been infested with the terrorists and extortion activities of NDFB(Anti Talk) who had been off late targeting the tea gardens of the district by slapping rupees one crore extortion demand duly signed by its leader Daikhang (self styled deputy commander of central battalion).To avert the evil design of the terrorists,315 Field Regiment (KARGIL) of the Red Horns Division had been painstakingly collecting intelligence about their network and modus operandi.On specific information on Aug 31, the unit struck with precision and apprehended Nokul Daimary of village Alikah, Paneri and Swrangsa Daimary of village Balishita,Udalguri.A pistol alongwith live ammunition and extortion pads of NDFB(anti talk) were recovered from the duo. They confessed to having served the Rs.1crore extortion notes to the three premium tea gardens of the area between July and August 2010.On enquiry they revealed operating on behalf of Dwidem Daimary alias Khungur of Ambagaon and a close associate of Daikhang.The money collected thus was being used to finance the terror module of anti nationals.The arrest of these dreaded extortionists has sent a wave of relief amongst the planters and has acted as a major dampener in the funding of the NDFB (anti talk). Kargil Gunners, who have been at the forefront of re establishing the rule of law and spread of peace in Udalguri district have once again proved their mettle by methodically developing intelligence and swiftly launching the operations.Other linkmen involved in the extortion network are currently on the run with the security forces in their hot pursuit.The two arrested cadres alongwith the recoveries were handed over to the police for subsequent investigation.

52 foreign tourists nabbed

Customs officials and the West Bengal police have so far arrested 52 foreign tourists hours after they seized 22 satellite phones from a hotel in New Jalpaiguri on Saturday.

According to information, these phones were seized from two foreign nationals---one from UK and another from Belgium.

On the basis of their confessional statements, police further arrested 50 more foreign tourists from the New Jalpaiguri town.

Three traffickers arrested in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar,May 25: Kokrajhar police,RPF,ABSU apprehended three suspected human traffickers and rescued two minor girls from traffickers at Brahmaputra train at Kokrajhar rail station this evening.

The persons were tried to  trafficked girls to Delhi keeping lobby of jobs.The rescued girls are from Biswanath Chariali and they  boarded train at Rangia station.

Getting information about the trafficking, ABSU workers from Kokrajhar district unit committee of ABSU,Kokrajgar police and RPF carried out a search along the train and arrested the person and rescued the two minor girls.The rescued girls are under 15-16 year age group.

The arrested were identified as Rapul Hussain, 22,(Rangia),Ajay Biswas,22,(Morigaon) and Bijan Borah,20,Guwahati.

Arrested are now bought at Kokrajhar Police Station.

A RPF Officer,Kokrajhar told that the persons were arrested from Brahmaputra mail down train who were allegedly tried to trafficked girls from Assam.

An FIR has been lodged with police in this regard
