TEZPUR: Despite a stepped up vigil smuggling of forest resources refuses to die down along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. The safe transit route, these days, is the Bhalukpung area where these resources in question are brought to Assam even with support from a section a section of police and forest officials.
A joint team of Dhekiajuli forest department and police intercepted a huge consignment of illegal wood logs worth over ₹ 6 lakh in Kalamati on Wednesday.
According to information loaded in six trucks, these were brought from Arunachal Pradesh to Sonitpur district through Bhalukpung to be intercepted by a team of forest department led by ranger Prabhat Sarma with the help of police.
Police further seized a bolero pick up van used by the smugglers.
The entire smuggling network is expected to surface since the police investigation is going on.
The smugglers were believed to have managed a section of forest officials and police deployed in the check gates in between Arunachal Pradesh to Dhekiajuli in Assam.
